Situated on the western edge of the Alaska Range, Winterlake Lodge immerses you into wild, rugged mountains and glaciers. Nestled on 15 acres along mile 198 of the historic Iditarod Trail, the lodge overlooks peaceful Finger Lake – where guests arrive by floatplane in the summer and ski-plane in the winter. Fly-fish or raft remote rivers, travel by helicopter to dramatic active glaciers for summer dogsledding, or hike historic trails with opportunities to potentially view Mount Denali, North America's tallest peak. All guests receive complimentary massage, yoga, cooking classes, and wine & cheese tastings.
With only six guest accommodations, the lodge is purposefully kept small and personal, private and sustainable in commitment to the environment. The lodge collects rainwater for the property gardens and have high-efficiency washers, shower heads, and toilets. They recycle all aluminum, glass, paper from the lodge, and have eliminated single-use plastics.
For the intrepid: Visit the sled dogs at summer camp! Take a quick helicopter flight to visit Winterlake Lodge’s beloved sled dog family and spin around an ancient icefield trail on your own dog sled for a mushing experience with an outrageous view.
Want more sled dog action? The Iditarod Trail runs across the property, through the woods, down to the frog pond and on to Nome. Every year, in the first week of March, the Iditarod Sled Dog Race stops at the Finger Lake Checkpoint right outside of Winterlake Lodge. Sit on the deck or venture down to the lake to watch the dog teams arrive. Interact with handlers, veterinarians, mushers and race dogs. View mushers and their teams as they make their way to Nome!
For the indulgent: Winterlake Lodge emphasizes relaxation amidst the Alaskan wilderness. Enjoy complimentary daily yoga classes in the morning and SUP meditations on the water. Take on focused walks in the quiet forest and gathering wild edibles with an on-site forager for afternoon tea. Your stay also includes a complimentary massage to help you unwind upon arrival!
