Where should fashion focus? Reduce toxics and carbon emissions, and make longer-lasting clothes, according to a new survey of 3,000 people worldwide committed by Lycra — which is, p.s., still plastic. My most-cited solution to the fast fashion problem is buying preloved and keeping clothes in circulation and a new report backs me up: Europe is currently leaving roughly $70 million worth of potentially recycled textiles on the table each year. 
 
In a massive step forward, California’s governor recently banned the sale of products containing PFAS — the “forever chemicals” linked to cancer — but vetoed a third bill that would have forced disclosure to the public of those already on the market. Meanwhile, keep avoiding those nonstick pans, wrinkle-free fabrics, and microwave popcorn!
 
A report from GAIA shows zero waste strategies could cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1.4 billion metric tons — equivalent to zapping all cars from U.S. roads for a year. Analysis proves that we can increase EV production and still keep the lights on. And a 100% solar-powered community in Florida stayed powered up before, during, and after Ian. 
 
In parenting news, there is now a climate-change themed, animated series for preschoolers that won't give them nightmares. (But it fails to connect the dots on fossil fuels. Who will save the day?)
