Hi friends,

I have been sending this newsletter with love for one hundred weeks.
Preparing this edition was special because I geeked out and put on my analytical mode hat, which I love so much and here is what I did:
  • I opened all 99 editions of Sunday Spark.
  • I logged the number of subscribers I had each week (we're coming close to 1900, if you are wondering)
  • I logged the open rate of each newsletter, which is the % of subscribers who opened it, like you, instead of letting it hang in there unread forever.
  • I also recorded the click rate of each edition, which indicates how much you engaged with the sparks I shared; a higher click rate means you liked the topic(s) I shared.
  • Then I collected the top 50 Sparks below from the top Sunday Sparks based on the highest open rate.
  • I also recorded the sending time, the taglines I used, the impact of adding a picture to the email, and so on to capture any trend.
Interestingly, here is what I found:
  • You love heart emojis 💞 in email headers; aren't you the cutest?
  • You love it when I add a personal picture in the email, like today.
  • You feel drawn to December and January emails because I speak the goals language a lot, which is why many of you are here, right?
  • And, of course, you love downloadable gifts 🎁. Those Sunday sparks with a free habit tracker or a calendar got so many clicks that I considered them anomalies that skewed the average open rate.
  • You love my writing! I was so happy that some of the best-clicked sparks were blog posts I wrote. Thank you for encouraging me to write more.

Many of you had missed these BEST OF sparks because we were not email buddies when I originally sent them. Therefore, I advise you to save this email and savor it. Or, skim the 50 Sparks and see what first catches your eye, and dig in.

What I love about The Sunday Spark is that I no longer overwhelm family and friends with quotes, books, and articles I think they should check out; I now add these resources to the following Sunday Spark 😊.

I want you to know that I don't take your precious time and attention lightly; thank you for trusting me to be a regular visitor of your inbox and for the support you show me by reading this newsletter, sharing it, and replying to me. I hope to spark your curiosity, motivation, and inspiration as we continue this journey for one hundred more editions. I also have a feeling this is not the last 100 I will celebrate this year, so stay tuned.

P.P.S. I'm so excited as I get ready to launch the new 2023 Goal-Setting workshop at the end of November; add your email below to be the first to receive the details as soon as it's launched.

Taken today, a surprise from my dear friend and student in journaling and goals workshops, Mena Khumra. Thank you so much.
Here is the Best of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ listing 50 inspiring things I thought were worth starting your week with:

  1. I wrote a list of my personal feel-good things/moments. Do we have much in common? Make your own.
  2. Take Gretchen Rubin’s amazing personality quiz. See what I wrote about it here.
  3. I went on TV to talk about the digital declutter challenge that ends today (Feb 14 2021). I really enjoyed my time and felt very confident talking about this topic that I believe in so much.
  4. A recipe I wrote for treating a bad mood.
  5. A super article: What Does It Really Take to Build a New Habit?
  6. A free course: would you like to build your writing habit like me? I subscribed to this free email course by David Kadavy, few days left to enroll. (more than 1 year later: subscribing is available for 2 days only, this is your SIGN!)
  7. Listen to my short podcast episode about delayed bedtime revenge or read my post about it here.
  8. An updated list of evening reflection questions.
  9. Read my reflection on this beautiful word: Pausibility.
  10. In love with the sketch notes of this artist, see this one about focus.
  11. Whenever I start a deep work session on my computer, I play focusing music on Brain Fm. You get a full one free month to try it using my link.
  12. A short read: Four simple questions for an awesome 2022. I love the advice that Peter gave at the end.
  13. This is a beautiful exercise I learned from the book "The Art of Possibility": Give your December 2022 self an A right now and then write a letter explaining why.
  14. Elizabeth King's quote below inspired Seth Godin to write his book "The Practice", which I'm sure I mentioned here before. Here is an inspiring summary of chapter 1.
  15. Here is a link to a LIVE I hosted last week about goal-setting @360mom. I personally think it was amazing with those glasses on,  and of course, I was interrupted by my son (off-camera this time).
  16. My brand new podcast episode: How to choose your Word of the Year and the inspiring lists of words I created for you on Instagram.
  17. This is a list of super-powerful questions, if you don't know what to journal about, try some.

  20. I met with my accountability partner to get some clarity on the steps for our next separate projects, using the Ship It Journal by Seth Godin which helped me more than once before when I felt stuck. The questions are brilliant and work well for personal and business projects. Download and print the PDF here for your project (and every new project) and listen to Seth as he walks you through it.
  21. Try to understand your feelings by talking to yourself in your head or through journaling using distanced self-talk (e.g. 'Why is First name / (your name) feeling this way?') instead of immersed self-talk (e.g., 'Why am I feeling this way?') to feel less negatively about personal, negative experiences. This article proves it.
  22. It is amazing how your body posture can help you feel more confident almost instantly. Check Amy Cuddy's Ted talk: Your Body Language May Shape Who You Are to learn how exactly.  I also read her book Presence and highly recommend it.
  23. Why procrastination is about managing emotions, not time. Always ask, what's the next action? thinking in projects keep us stuck, while thinking in actions makes us feel we can get things done.
  24. You love it when I send you quizzes! Here is one that is based on the book Emotional Agility by Susan David. It gives you personalized feedback on how to be more effective with your thoughts and emotions.
  25. Every Thursday, my friend Abd Hato releases a bedtime story for kids in ARABIC! Have your kids listen to بودكاست قصة ما قبل النوم .
  26. Use the Circle of Concern to Reframe Your Fears in Uncertain Times. It reminded me of this video I made.
  27. A must-read famous Twitter thread about money.
  28. A rich article (see the pun I just made?): 11 Ways to Feel Rich.
  29. My favorite expenses tracking app is Mobills. I like their advanced web version.
  30. A blog post I found remarkable is The Rule of 5: Practical Steps to Achieve Your Goals Faster.
  31. My inbox is filled with year-end reflection questions, here is a favorite list from a learning a day, worth answering: “What 1-2 skills do I want to develop in new year (professional and personal)? What actions am I going to take to develop them?” .
  32. An idea I love from habits and happiness guru Gretchen Rubin is: Consider Writing Your “21 for 2021” List. She also suggests #Read21in21. (Adapt to 2023)
  33. Tracking my time: what I learned (and why I won't complain about housework again).
  34. This article reminded me why I loved the morning pages so much when I practiced them: Getting up at 5:40 am changed my life and saved my sanity.
  35. A podcast episode I enjoyed: Finish more goals by asking 1 surprising question!
  36. I am a big believer in deep work; read the book about it (Arabic here) and check this great advice: Ditch the Distractions: How Deep Work Habits Can Improve Your Focus.
  37. Do you know what Toxic Positivity is? I really get it now!
  38. Did you do your weekly preview? I wrote the steps for you.
  39. I use Blinkist app to review books I read and to decide if a book is worth reading. Try Blinkist for free for one month using my link.
  40. A book I recommend for mummies which I see as the 101 of self-care: The Art of Extreme Self-Care.
  41. An energizing quote: “The world needs your spark. The world needs your energy. The world needs you to show up for your life and take hold of your potential! We need your ideas. We need your love and care. We need your passion. We need to celebrate your successes. We need to watch you rise back up after your failures. We need to see your courage. We need you to stop apologizing for being who you are and become who you were meant to be” ― Rachel Hollis
  42. A quote to get you going:“You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do.” ― Henry Ford
  43. A favorite love quote:"The greatest happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved for ourselves or rather loved despite ourselves.” " ― Victor Hugo
  44. Process saves us from the poverty of our intentions.”― Elizabeth King
  45. A quote to get you into the habit of saving money: “Saving  money is often associated with sacrifice. However, you can associate it with freedom rather than limitation if you realize one simple truth: living below your current means increases your future means. The money you save this month increases your purchasing power next month.”. ― James Clear
  46. Why I re-commit to waking up at 5 am every November: "Six years on, winter is still my favourite time. Summer mornings are too loud and bright, the birds and roads too noisy. It feels like there might be other people awake in the world, whereas in winter it feels like it’s only me."―Helen McNutt
  47. Here is a quote I loved from Marianne Williamson. Her book is also a wonderful spiritual companion for the year ahead: “It’s not enough to say good-bye to 2020. We owe it to ourselves to set our intentions high for 2021. Let’s not carry the anxiety of this year with us. Let’s forgive and release this year and receive the miracle of new possibilities. Let’s leave it at the door and make way for new beginnings. This year was tough, but let’s decide right now that next year will be miraculous.” -Marianne Williamson
  48. Why goal setting? here is one reason:"Setting goals makes it possible to do something today to create the future you want. If you don’t plan your time, someone else will help you waste it"― Zig Ziglar, Born to Win
  49. A quote to remind you that "busy" does not mean productive: "When everything feels urgent and important, everything seems equal. We become active and busy, but this doesn't actually move us any closer to success. Activity is often unrelated to productivity, and busyness rarely takes care of business"― The ONE Thing by Gary Keller, Jay Papasan
  50. Are you causing sparks? if not, here is what to do: "If you’re on a journey but it’s rarely causing a spark, you probably need to make better work. Braver work. Work with more empathy. Once you learn to see, you can learn to improve your craft. Combined with your commitment to the practice, it’s inevitable you’ll produce an impact. If you care enough." ― Seth Godin, The Practice
