The culmination of my October, this poem was impelled by the death of Mahsa Amini (#mahsaamini), the young woman detained by Iranian morality police for improper hijab. 
 
Still reeling from the erosion of women's human rights here in the United States, I sought to understand the fervent urge to control women's bodies. Audre Lorde provided the key– specifically, her essays Poetry Is Not a Luxury and Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power
