Hi friends,
It's been a good week over here. I spent the last few days on a solo work retreat, luckily staying just two floors below mine at my friend/neighbor's empty apartment. It was fun being close to home, but admittedly, also hard. I'm not used to being away from my family and seeing Inge and Raffi come home through
this giant peephole made me feel quite melancholy. It didn't help that I happened to watch this
short film by Claire Thomas about her sweet and tender boy growing older at the same time that I usually put Raffi to sleep. Despite missing them, however, I was still incredibly grateful for the time away. Motherhood is such a trip sometimes.
Anyway. A lot of fun stuff happened this week too. For starters, I was selected as a
2022-2023 American Express & Luminary fellow. I've been craving more in-person connection and one of the perks is that I'll have access to Luminary's coworking and event space. I'm looking forward to trying it out and meeting new people. Which got me thinkingā¦
Is there something you've been wanting to apply for? Or something you've been wanting to experiment with or put out into the world? What's stopping you? If there's any wisdom I can impart, it's to just go for it. There's no guarantee on how things will turn out, but you won't know if you don't try.
Speaking of doing brave things, it's the
TCS New York City Marathon this weekend. I'll be cheering on the runners (and likely losing my voice) from Williamsburg. If you're running, or have friends who are running, let me know. I love making signs to support people. And if you've never witnessed a marathon in person, I
highly recommend it. The energy and love and support you feel are electric and you witness the best qualities in people shine through. I'm already tearing up just thinking about it.
Cheers to a happy and healthy weekend!
xo,
Lisa Michelle
