Thanksgiving is a great time of year to have the students reflect on all of the things and people that they appreciate. You can begin by introducing a brief history of Thanksgiving with our updated PowerPoint and then show videos that explain the holiday in Spanish. You may also like sharing this article with your Spanish classes about what the main course will be in Spanish-speaking countries instead of turkey. This reading goes along perfectly with a food unit! As a culminating project, students can create their own Thankful Turkeys to practice being grateful and to build community while using the target language. Students will enjoy seeing their classmates’ turkeys and they can even vote for their favorites via Google Classroom or whatever LMS you use.
