THE WEEKLY GOOSE

NO: 092 |  11.16.2022
Good morning!

Did you know? Calgary is the third most diverse major city in Canada with people having immigrated here from more than 150 countries. The city is also home to over 240 different ethnic origins and more than 120 languages spoken.

Speaking of other languages, we're still in Mexico City at the moment, but can't wait to hit the slopes when we return. It looks like many ski resorts are opening early this year. We're also working on a video to show you what Day of the Dead is all about in Mexico. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, enjoy the 92nd edition of the Weekly Goose newsletter, which features a video about life in Calgary, a travel guide to Calgary's best coffee shops, travel news, and more!

BEAVER BITES

  • Calgary is getting a brand new 3-acre park with a skating rink, fire features, and more, all just in time for the winter season. Located near the University of Calgary at Central Common Parks, the grand opening will take place on December 4th, including skating performances, music and entertainment, complimentary hot cider and the U/D Night Market-Holiday Edition.

  • It comes as no surprise to us that Alberta is an amazing place to explore, which is why it was recently named one of the top 25 breathtaking places to visit in 2023 by National Geographic. We don't really want it to get more crowded, but with the Rocky Mountains, the badlands, the foothills, and some great cities, we don't blame everyone for wanting to visit.

  • Have you ever thought about doing a really hardcore hike? How about a 5-year hike across Canada? That's what German hiker Melanie Vogel did as she just became the first woman to walk across Canada, coast-to-coast-to-coast, ending her journey in Victoria, BC.

  • Wanna buy an NHL team? Well, if you have the money, you can link up with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds to buy the Ottawa Senators, which is currently for sale. Thankfully, the team must remain in Ottawa.

  • As scuba divers, we'd certainly relish the chance to high-five an octopus, so naturally, we're kinda jealous that one BC diver recently got to shake hands with a giant octopus.

  • A 600-year-old gold coin discovered in Newfoundland could be the oldest found in Canada. The location where it was found has yet to be disclosed out of fear of attracting treasure hunters. Now we're really intrigued.

  • The Grey Cup takes place in Regina this Sunday, November 20th, and will feature the Toronto Argonauts against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Country artists Jordan Davis, Tyler Hubbard, and Josh Ross will play the half-time show. Enjoy! 🏈
