Hi First name / love,

How is the final week of the year feeling to you? Triumphant? Relaxing? Quiet? Bleak? I'm circling all of the above on those four and letting 2022 end with a whimper, not a bang.

Lots of tough things happened in my life this year, but one highlight was my ongoing obsession with Notion, my notes app, and keeping track of things I'm watching & reading.

I started using Notion when I launched Softer Sounds, and my newfound ability to organize the many pieces of my work in one place has since seeped into other areas of my life.

I track all the courses I take in Notion. I organize my big picture finances in Notion. You might've heard that I'm even launching a series of courses in Notion next year, with my dear friend & collaborator mary grace allerdice. More on that here.

Basically, it's Notion, Notion, Notion! over here. And more than anything, what I love about Notion is that I don't have to hold so many things in my brain anymore. Rather than forgetting all my brilliant ideas, I can put them in Notion and revisit them when I'm ready to see if they're actually brilliant…or if they need more time to cook before making their debut.

As someone with pretty abysmal long-term memory, Notion helps me remember more of my ideas. It's also taught me the power of keeping track of the content I consume.

Funnily enough, I don't necessarily track that content in Notion. As I've shared here before, I log what I've read and want to read in Literal

And I keep a “Watch Log” note in my phone – that includes every movie and tv show I've watched since 2020, chronicled with a super-advanced categorizing system like “bold if it's good” and “emoji if I had a feeling about it.”

My notes-app-watch-log is great, but I also recently joined Letterboxd for a more social viewing experience. Follow me there to see what I'm watching lately.

All of this is a long way of saying, I actually kept track of what I watched & read this year! And I wanted to share my faves with you all as we cruise into 2023.

So without further ado…keep reading for my 2022 Best Of… lists!

My 2022 best of…books
According to Literal, I read over 60 books this year. That's wayyyy more than I've read in years past, but my final count definitely got bumped by the fact that I read multiple multi-book fantasy series this year (including the 11-book Fever series).

In no particular order, my fave reads were:

Literary fiction –  The High House by Jessie Greengrass

Romance – The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston, Payback's a Witch by Lana Harper, Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Fantasy – Throne of Glass (series) by Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns & Roses (series) by Sarah J. Maas, Small Town, Big Magic by Hazel Beck

Business – Money Magic by The Money Witch, Free Time: Lose the Busywork, Love Your Business by Jenny Blake

Non-fiction – Who is Wellness For? by Fariha Roisin, The Power of Fun by Catherine Price, An Everlasting Meal by Tamar Adler, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty

Find the whole list in my Bookshop here.

My 2022 best of…movies & tv
According to Letterboxd, I've watched over 150 films this year. And that doesn't even include all the tv shows I've seen! In no particular order, my faves were:

When you're craving a fantastical escape – Three Thousand Years of Longing (rent on Amazon), Hocus Pocus 2 (on Disney+), A Discovery of Witches (on AMC) & Vampire Academy (the tv show NOT the movie, on Peacock)

If you're into “prestige tv” that's actually pretty good – Yellowjackets (on Showtime), Hacks (on HBO) & Don't Worry Darling (on HBO)

For those times you just want a good time – Crush (on Hulu), Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls (on Amazon), Catherine Cohen: The Twist…? She’s Gorgeous (on Netflix), Partner Track (on Netflix), The Sex Lives of College Girls (on HBO) & Rap Sh!t (on HBO)

When you're up for a scare – Barbarian (on HBO), The Sadness (AMC), Watcher (on AMC), The Menu (not streaming yet) & the new Hellraiser (on Hulu)

And if (like me) you had a point this year where you could only watch sweet, soft, familiar things, there's always –  Gilmore Girls, The Bold Type, The Babysitter's Club & our forever friend… the first ten seasons of Greys Anatomy (because I always abandon my rewatch when Christina leaves).

See my ratings and follow me on Letterboxd here.

Thank you for being here, First name / friend. . I'd love to know what your fave reads & watches were this year. Reply & let me know what you enjoyed.

And if developing your own seasonal systems for remembering, sharing and Notion-ing appeals to you, I'd love to invite you to join me & mary grace in a new course we're launching called Living Systems. Click here to learn more + get a few emails about the course next year.

Until 2023, my loves! ♡
xoxo, Amelia
