A note from Emily & David
We are on the last book of the Old Testament!  Can you believe it?  You did it!!  And we hope you fell in love with this book of scripture along the way.  Malachi is the perfect book to sum it all up.  We are introduced to the gratitude cycle as opposed to the pride cycle that we read about in the Book of Mormon.  AND, we are reminded of three important promises from God. This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying Malachi.

Teaching tips for kids
List ways that you can express gratitude to God.  Then teach about tithing and talk about how that practice fits into gratitude.
 
 
Teaching tips for teens
President Nelson extended this invitation: “As you study your scriptures during the next six months, I encourage you to make a list of all that the Lord has promised He will do for covenant Israel. I think you will be astounded! Ponder these promises. Talk about them with your family and friends. Then live and watch for these promises to be fulfilled in your own life.”
 
Take some time to list some of God’s promises to covenant Israel.  You will find the full list on the app or you can go through each of the newsletters.  Right at the top you will find the list of promises from that week’s reading.
 
 
Study the gratitude cycle described in Malachi 3 and compare it to the pride cycle in the Book of Mormon.  What do you learn?
 
Christmas Lesson
 
You will want to begin preparing for your Christmas lesson this week.  The lesson we are going to teach will give people a chance to ponder on 12 Old Testament symbols of Christmas.  It might be fun to actually have the actual symbols with you when you teach the lesson.  In fact, we are putting together small shepherds bags for each of our kids.  Maybe you want to as well!!  You will have some of these supplies at home, but you might need to order some of these items if you are going to create individual bags.  The lesson will work for primary, teens and adults.  All of these items can be found in our new Christmas book, “More Than Just a Star”  where you will find all of the images ready to cut out, and a story that leads you through each of the 12 symbols. If you want to create a true shepherds bag, here are the supplies you will want to gather:
A paper with a star drawn on
A wooden flute
A pomegranate
A few pieces of Frankincense
An Olive leaf branch
A piece of Wool
A rock
A small stick for a staff
A vial of oil
A candle
A small lamb
A piece of straw

Don't Miss This in the New Testament
Preorders for 2023 Come Follow Me
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long vides, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
