Welcome to the December issue of the Science Policy Group at UCLA Newsletter!

Upcoming events & opportunities
2023 Welcome Back Event
We will have our first general meeting of 2023 in January! We will get to catch up, talk about what projects are happening this quarter, and how one can get more involved!

Keep an eye out for the date, time, and on-campus location! We will send out an email in the first week of the Winter quarter.
In preparation for the upcoming year, here is a preview of some projects in the pipeline for the upcoming year.
  • Open Call for Writing Teams:
We form ✍️ student-led writing teams ✍️ on a rolling basis for our members to create community while working on honing writing skills and deep-diving into a specific topic. These can take the form of popular science articles, policy memos, op-eds, and more!
Do you have an idea for a submission or would like to join an existing team? Reach out over Slack or email (uclascipolgroup@gmail.com), or come chat in-person at our Welcome Back Event!

  • Interest Poll:
SPG is entirely member-driven. Is there a particular issue that you are passionate about? Are you interested in a science-policy topic or project but not sure where to start, or need an extra set of hands? If you have 💡 an idea (or an idea of an idea) 💡, let us know HERE

  • Mentoring high school capstone projects (Odyssey STEM Academy):
In the second installment of our partnership with UCLA Science Project, several mentor positions are open for guiding high school seniors at Odyssey STEM Academy as they work on their 📚 senior capstone project 📚. More details to come in January, but email us at uclascipolgroup@gmail.com to indicate interest. Check out our blog post about last year's edition.
