In the videos, I show 2 ways of lettering the "y":
1) Lettering the second half of the "y" all in one stroke
2) Lettering the second half of the "y" in two separate strokes by stopping and picking up my pen at the transition at the bottom of the curve, then changing the direction of my paper, and finishing the loop vertically, coming towards me.
The way I letter depends on how large and curvy the bottom loop of the y is. If it feels like my hand will strain or get shaky trying to do it one stroke, I will break it up and letter it in two parts (or more). Breaking it up is my preferred method, especially if a letter has a lot of large curves, long lines, or flourishes.
Also, don't worry if the lettering isn't perfect all the way through--continue and finish the entire word. Once you are done, you can go back and touch things up like I did in the video. But I do recommend not messing with it too much--sometimes that can make things worse!
I hope you enjoyed the videos and find it helpful!
