Goodbye, 2022
Hi First name / friend

As we frantically bring this year to a close, I’d ask you to join me in taking a couple minutes of quiet reflection.

For many years, I was so focused on the performative aspect of my life - doing, being, saying and wearing all the right things, that I didn’t actually take the time to FEEL my life. To feel the joy, the hurt, and mourn disappointment. To scream I love you, you let me down, I forgive you and l’ve never had so much fun. To be present for life is maybe the best present of all.

Here are a few questions I’m asking myself as I reflect on the last year:
  • What is one thing you will celebrate that came from 2022?
  • What is one thing you need to mourn?
  • What expectation do you need to release?
  • Who do you need to forgive?
  • Where did you go that brought adventure?
  • Where did you show up for yourself?
  • Who do you need to show love to?
Shine your light in 2023:
One of my favorite poems is from Marianne Williamson. As you begin to set intentions for next year, remember:  You are powerful beyond measure. You are worthy. You are enough - just as you are today.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

—Marianne Williamson

Listen In 🎙
One of my goals with Scared Confident is to be for others. In keeping with that, I asked Rachel Downey to takeover the podcast this past month. Rachel is the co-founder and CEO of Share Your Genius, the podcast production company that J.R. and I bought in 2021. Rachel shares the journey to Share Your Genius’ first million—all of her stories from the messy middle of growing a company, its culture, and herself.
