Lectio Divina with Teesha Hadra {Video}

The Rev. Teesha Hadra is the Rector at Church of the Resurrection in Los Angeles. She holds Bachelor’s Degrees and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. Teesha practiced law for nearly seven years before beginning full time ministry. After graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary with an MDiv, Teesha served as a Chaplain at a Level I trauma center in New Orleans, LA, where she provided pastoral care to people from all walks in life in the midst of crisis. She co-authored Black & White: Disrupting Racism One Friendship at a Time with her friend, John Hambrick.

Reflect on Teesha's words that the Kingdom of God is not just a plan for the future but a vision for the world right now. And justice is a big part of that. Justice work is Kingdom work.

Teesha describes Lectio Divina as listening for God's word to us as individuals and to our communities. Practice Breath Prayer with this idea. Breathe in: God speaks. Breathe out: I will listen or We will listen.

When you find yourself tired from the bigness of the problem and the smallness of the impact, sing “He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.” Teesha reminds us that this children's song is an African American spiritual sung for generations to inspire faith.

Practice Lectio Divina with one of the passages Teesha recommends: Revelations 21:1-6, Isaiah 43:1-3, John 1:1-18, Luke 1:46-55, or Genesis 1 or 3.
