“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
~ Soren Kierkegaard
Today we’re going to practice entering a scene from the book of John. And while in certain circumstances it can be helpful to have the passage in front of you, it is often distracting to have the text before you in imagination prayer.
For those who grew up in faith traditions where intellect and study were highly valued, we can tend to get lost in the surrounding context rather than trusting the Spirit and our body to guide us in meeting Jesus in the scene.
As you’re able, find a comfortable position and begin your time by lighting a candle or playing soft music. Ask for the grace to know and feel God’s love more deeply—even as you remember you are already in the presence of Love.
