Hi
it's me
kristin
Hi there! welcome to my annual (maybe quarterly?) email where I keep you updated on allll the things. That's right: the good, the bad, and all the fun in between!
I hope this finds you all cozy and enjoying that last bits of the holiday season before we have to jump back into work. I don't know about you but the end of 2022 finally felt like closing the chapter on 2020. The past year was a combination of trying to catch up on all the things I missed over the past two years and trying to intentionally slow down.

I am still reckoning with this ‘new normal’ but I feel more ready than I have in years to take on some new things.  I am coming to terms with what this balance looks like in this season of my life and one of my priorities is to stay connected to the people I care about which is why I’m rolling out this annual (maybe quarterly?) life update.

Thank you for being here and I hope you enjoy!

Life updates

💍
If you’re reading this then I am sure this is not news to you that I am engaged to the best person I’ve met to this day. I could not be more excited to keep living life with Mr. Wonderful himself--it's a perpetual ‘pinch me’ moment.

🎉
Celebrating our friends birthdays and marriages was another big win this year. After the turbulence of the past few years I feel so grateful to have celebrated alongside so many of you wonderful people. From birthday celebrations in Cancun to weddings in hill country; it was such a fun year.

👩🏻‍💻
Traveling to London for work was an unforgettable experience. It was such a ‘this is what I’ve worked for’ moment and I felt really proud. Transitioning my career was not something I anticipated doing 5 years ago but it's turned out to be one of the best decisions I made.

Career Moves

Over the past two years, I have completely pivoted my career and in 2022 I closed out my first year as a Data Coach with an ed-tech company, Multiverse. In my new role, I teach technical data skills in Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, SQL, Python as well as storytelling with data, meaningful metrics, and provide professional career coaching.

Teaching is the one job I said that I would never do because I had a pretty good idea of how much work goes into being a great instructor. Spoiler alert, it's a lot, but being willing to take this leap is also a pretty good indicator of how much I love talking about data.  While I wouldn’t consider myself great yet, (we are on our way there!) I have accomplished some pretty amazing things including being the first Data Coach to teach across all three of our data programs, helped build out a global curriculum refit, and drastically increased my confidence in teaching and coaching.

I’m excited to share more about my career journey and how I went from a biology, pre-med degree to an urban planning career to a full on data geek. My biggest takeaway with all of these transitions has been: try it and see what happens. It has always been worth the risk of trying something new vs staying where I am today.

Betty Crocker Bullshit

Betty Crocker bullshit became a regular occurrence on my IG stories this year as Sanjay and I spend many evenings cooking together. Below are some of our favorite recipes. We also really loved Hungryroot toward the end of the year when meal planning got to be overwhelming. The meals are quick to make and accommodate our gluten-free, dairy-free needs. Happy cooking! 👩🏻‍🍳👨🏽‍🍳

What I'm looking forward to in 2023

Building back the habits that fell off during the cluster cuss of the past few years: getting in regular physical activity and creating space for regular reflection.

Sharing more of my career journey over the past two years and how I pivoted my career after 8 years in the same industry and what I do in my new role!

Building out my personal website a bit more and connecting it to everything I’ve already created (what up, San Antonio Sherpa) and maybe even blogging a little bit.

But most of all, I’m excited to continue enjoying time with friends, having more dinner parties, and making memories with all of you!

Let's do this,
