Featured Tree: WEstern Soapberry 

Sapindus drummondii, is native to Kansas with shallowly furrowed bark that can become grey-brown to reddish brown--ideal for winter interest. The fruit can be crushed in water to create a soap substitute. Soapberry is highly adapted to drought with strong wood, making the tree highly wind resistant.
