WEEK 1 CHECK-IN | 5 BRUSH LETTERING TIPS |
|
Hello! How's week 1 going so far? I hope you have been enjoying the challenge, finding the worksheets helpful, and getting some brush lettering practice in! For this check in I wanted to share 5 quick tips that might come in handy! - Try lettering WITHOUT putting the cap on the back of your pen. I've found that the uneven and extra weight from the cap can sometimes make my pen feel less comfortable / harder for me to control.
- Move your paper around so that your hand/pen doesn't have to stretch or move uncomfortably. If you have to reach or strain your hand/fingers in any way, it can cause wobbly lines.
- Take it slow! There's no such thing as lettering too slowly--if you are finding mistakes and shakiness in your letters, slowing down can help keep things steady.
- When you start lettering, it can be a little tricky getting the thin strokes as thin as you'd like. Don't worry too much about that! As long as there is a difference between the thin upstrokes and thick downstrokes, you are good! As you get more comfortable with your pen and strokes, you'll be able to adjust the lines to make them thinner.
- Once you've traced the letters/words on the worksheets and it's time to letter on your own, use the guidelines on the paper to help you form the shapes. Refer to the examples on the sheet: see where a letter falls on the guidelines and try to aim for that (ie: the lowercase "e" falls between the two red lines, the bottom of the "t" falls below the red line, etc.)
