Let’s break down the energetic opportunities at hand and what to be mindful of on our daily journeys…
The Full Moon in Cancer opposes the Sun in Capricorn.
How has your Capricorn season been? Saturn-ruled earth sign Capricorn governs time, responsibility, strict rules, hierarchies, traditions, and is the go-getter of the zodiac. This is why the holidays always feel so high-strung for most. I hope you’ve started to soften up, but if not, this Cancer Moon will surely wash over you like a soft bed of sand.
This lunation is the midway point of this lunar cycle that began with the New Moon in Capricorn last month – a New Moon that encouraged us to embrace and plan for change. It was met by the planet of expansion Jupiter shifting into action-oriented Aries, and many saw changes overnight! The focus of this lunar cycle has been to revisit what we learned in 2022 and how we could use our new knowledge to create new worlds that support broader visions. This Full Moon is a continuation of that; however, the Moon is illuminating our personal lives.
This lunation specifically calls on us to question the structures, beliefs, and expectations that we’re used to carrying. And as Cancer is the sign of mothering, a lot of what will come up to be questioned is rooted in our upbringing, family connections, and childhoods. This moment allows us to love ourselves in the ways we needed when we were younger and ultimately, gives us clarity on how we’re meant to continue on our journey of maturity. Conscious reparenting, self-acceptance and forgiveness, and self-love are inevitably in focus.
Ask yourself:
- What was I given to carry that is not mine? What am I holding onto that doesn’t align with the version of me that I’m aligning with?
- What has been my level of discernment when it comes to the energy I’m giving and taking?
- What is my inner child’s state right now? How can I nourish and best protect them moving forward?
The Sun and the Moon are sextiling Uranus.
As the Sun and the Moon are in harmonious aspect to Uranus, the planet of awakening, we get a nudge in the right direction. If we tap into this energy, we’ll be more open to receiving new solutions to old problems. We’re supported in working with our emotions (which is good because we’ll feel much more right now) as a means towards liberation and awakening.
Trauma and mental or energetic release work of any kind is a wonderful idea right now. Because
I plan my life with the cosmos, I have an EMDR session with my therapist scheduled for early next week when we’ll still be feeling these energies. Trauma release can be where ever you are with the tools you have too. Grabbing a note book and free writing what is coming up for you can be incredibly therapeutic. Using the reflection prompts from these insights would supercharge a journal session since they’re catered to the current cosmic energies.
T-square between the Sun, the Full Moon, and Chiron.
A T-Square takes place when two planets form an opposition or sit 180 degrees apart from each other, and a third planet comes along and forms a 90-degree square with them, literally resulting in a planetary T. Energetically, T-Squares trigger breaking points, pushing us to show up and make decisions that are in favor of our liberation and soul truth.
This T-square is very potent because it’s the Sun and the Moon opposing Chiron, the cosmic “wounded healer.” Wherever Chiron appears in our birth chart highlights how we’re meant to work with our pain to evolve. Right now, it’s unpatching old wounds so that we can get the energetic surgery we’ve been putting off. This is especially potent as it relates to family, mothering (matriarchy, moon) and fathering (patriarchy, sun).
Chiron is in Aries, the sign ruled by Mars that’s been retrograde since late October. Mars retrograde has been showing us the holes in our drive, how we do or don’t take action, and where we need to restructure how we respond to life.
This is all very useful but very fiery. All these energies colliding and bringing up past hurt can feel like a mental and emotional collision, but if we lean in with love and tenderness, truly mother ourselves through the process, and choose to shift our perspective, the new pathways created by this energetic blast will become more apparent.
This is a reminder that pain can be seen as a nuisance or as a signal. That it can keep you stuck, or it can route you in the most valuable direction.
Those of us that will make the brave and radical decision to accept ourselves, our past, and present, and decide to move forward, will choose our dharma – the direction of our cosmic duty and soul path. But those that will remain frozen in time and emotion, not willing to accept the path of forgiveness, acceptance, and liberation, will choose karma – the sum of our actions and unlearned lessons.
How grateful that while the end is already written for us, the choices that will shape the journey there are ours to make. When the going gets rough, remember that you always have a choice. Choose liberation.
The Full Moon is opposing the Sun/Mercury conjunction.
Exactly a day after the Full Moon perfects, the Moon will oppose the Sun and Mercury, the planet of communication that’s in retrograde. While this is happening, Mars (planet of action and war) is also retrograde in Gemini, a sign ruled by Mercury.
Yes, TWO retrogrades to start the year, communication, action, war, and awakening? What could go wrong, right? We’re actually poised for luck if we tap in. This is called a cazimi, an auspicious cosmic moment. We can expect sudden and unexpected information, realizations, spiritual downloads, dreams, and inspiration. This is not gossip or hot tea but information that can shift the trajectory of our path, so pay attention.
Because our roots, upbringing, and familial ties are under the moonlight, people in our lives (especially those who aren’t as focused on evolving) will be poised to express themselves in wilder ways than usual. So it would be wise to choose peace and take your time when responding. Emotions are high, and rage is an easy choice but not a good one.
One of the challenges and opportunities of this lunation is loving people wherever they are, especially those who continuously decline invitations to evolve. (Ourselves included.) This can help us break through and access a level of love we haven’t reflected, a version of us we haven’t met yet, new spiritual connections, and mindsets. Breathe through the moments you’re confronted by the craving to revert to a past version of yourself and allow your breath to reroute you. Remember wtf you are. You can go higher than any moment.
Let’s end by breaking down what 2023 means energetically
Just like astrology, numerology is an ancient study and tool that can help us better understand ourselves, our path on Earth, and in this case, the year ahead. We can add up the numbers of each year until we end up with a single digit, giving us the year’s numerology and the frequency that the year will vibrate. Knowing this information can help us best prepare our approach, intentions, and energy for the year ahead so that we know all possible growth and alignment opportunities.
2021 was a chaotic 5 year, the number of change and liberation. 2022 was a 6 year putting balance into focus in terms of our responsibilities, relationships, and community. We saw this play it with the pandemic back in full swing and turning into a tripledemic, we saw it in politics and how marginalized groups had to raise their arms to advocate for the basic right to live, and we experienced rebalancing in our personal lives in our own individual ways.
2+0+2+3 = 7, so 2023 is a 7 Universal Year.
Seven represents our relationship to our inner selves, analysis, intuition, and spirituality. This year is about personal growth, deepening our relationship to our spirit and what spirituality means to us, strengthening our connection to our intuition, and tapping into and sharing our wisdom.
Lucky for us, we have this community to lean into, so we’re never doing the shadow work of expanding alone. The work that we’ll do and the learning we’ll engage in together will be catered these 7 year themes, but you can begin now by asking yourself:
- How do I visualize myself flowing with the energy of this 7 year?
- What am I looking forward to taking action regarding my personal growth this year?
- What questions do I have about spirituality, my soul connection, and my intuition?
