New Testament 2023 Newsletter #4
John 1
We Have Found the Messiah
(Jan 16-22)

A note from Emily & David
We are trying something new this year!  Many of you have asked us for help with preparing and teaching your lessons, so we changed up the way we record these episodes.  Instead of one long episode, you will notice chapter breaks.  You can still watch the episode as a whole, or you can pick the segments you want to invest your time in.  We will title each segment below so you know what to expect.  This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying John 1. Here is what you can look forward to:

The Jesus I Never Knew:  Discovering all of Jesus
Riding Piggyback: He will take you to the place you can’t get to on your own.
When Jesus Went Viral: Bringing a friend to Christ
Pictures of Jesus:  He shows up as what you need Him to be
Fig Tree Moments:  Personal experiences with the Lord

We are so excited to spend this year learning with you!
With love,
David and Emily

This Week's Printable

The teaching invitation this week is to write down your own fig tree moment.

Teaching Tips for Kids
Read John 1:45-50
Teach your kids what it might look like or feel like to have a personal experience with Jesus Christ.  Explain that going to primary, or reading the scriptures, or praying can all lead to quiet personal moments with Jesus Christ.  Invite them to draw a picture or to think of some words that they feel when they are doing one of those things.

Teaching Tips for teens
Read John 1:45-50
Ask your teens if they have experienced a tender mercy moment in their life that only God would know about.  An answer to a prayer, a miracle, a feeling of comfort or strength.  Turn on some inspirational music for 2-3 minutes and invite them to write about that experience.  They might not feel comfortable writing all the details, but maybe they could describe how that experience felt and what they learned about being known by God from that experience.

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
Read John 1:45-50
Write down a fig tree experience from your life.  If you still have room on the page, write down the greater things you have seen in your life because you have chosen to come and see.

Don't Miss This in the New Testament
Come Follow Me 2023 Study Tools
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long vides, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
