A WINTER 2023 UPDATE FROM
STUCKLESS CONSULTING INC.
Happy new year! I hope that 2023 has been off to a positive start for you. For me, the new year has meant the end of my maternity leave and my return to work at Stuckless Consulting Inc. full time. While I've had mixed emotions about returning to work, it helps to be working on projects I enjoy and with people I enjoy working with!

A few of those projects and colleagues are highlighted in the newsletter below. Continue reading for more information on what we're up to at Stuckless Consulting.

you might find this interesting!
Below are a few items that I think that you might find interesting:
  • The last few weeks have seen big announcements about the recipients of funding from the National Active Transportation Fund! So far, we've seen announcements for projects across Canada including in Sudbury, Iqualuit, Calgary, Digby, Moose Jaw, Vancouver, and more. Stuckless Consulting Inc. has been tracking investments from this $400 million fund, and I figured that we might as well share our tracking with you too. You can check out our shared document of funded projects at the link below, and please let us know what we've missed as the announcements continue to roll out.
  • Winter Walk Day is coming up on Wednesday, February 1st! Schools can sign up for this annual celebration through Ontario Active School Travel and are invited to participate in events celebrating staying active in the winter throughout February.
  • Save the Date for the Ontario Traffic Council's Active Transportation Symposium on April 13th. The full day event will take place in a hybrid format, with options to join in-person in Mississauga or virtually.
  • Cycle Toronto is looking for its next Executive Director! The organization has shared a job posting for a full time permanent role (40 hours per week) leading the Cycle Toronto team. Applications are open until January 27th.
  • While I was on leave, the North American Bikeshare and Scootershare Association (NABSA) released their third annual Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report. Data in the report shows that at least 128 million trips were taken on shared micromobility in 2021, 12.9 million of which were taken in Canada. These annual reports are always full of data and insights and are a great resource for people in the micromobility and transportation space.
  • An analysis of the Community Cycling Program in Peel Region highlights a program that has proven successful at increasing resident access to working bikes. The network of community bike hubs across the region worked to repair or tune up over 2,400 bikes, engage 6,119 residents in bike repair training and contribute to consistent increases in cycling behaviour. A full copy of the analysis report by TCAT Researcher Trudy Ledsham is available on the TCAT website.
  • Strollerskating? Yes, please! Having grown up skating on the Rideau Canal each winter, I always look forward to the outdoor skating season. This year I have been wondering how I will bring my 6 month old daughter along with me, especially since many outdoor rinks don't allow sleds or strollers. Maybe I need to get myself to Winnipeg where Winnipeg Trails believes “strollerskating” may have been invented. The organization shared a strollerskating video and notes that a pathway has been cleared to help people get to the ice with their strollers. I love it! If you have suggestions for outdoor rinks that allow sleds or strollers closer to me in Hamilton, please let me know.
