Hi friend,
1. Connection
and
2. Community
We'll touch on Connection today and speak more to Community next week.
As for connection…who are we without it? I agree with how Brené Brown describes it: “Connection is why we're here. It's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.”
And connection can come in so many forms:
Connection to ourselves (better yet, to our Selves)
Connection to other humans
Connection to nature
Connection to other living beings
Connection to our work
Connection to our families, friends, and communities
Connection to things that fill us with a sense of meaning
Connection to our bodies and the life force flowing through them
Connection to beauty
Connection to music
Connection to joy
Connection to presence
Connection to the universe or a sense of the divine
Connection to life…
When we feel individually disconnected is when we collectively find ourselves in trouble as a species.
But if we can't physically connect with the almost eight billion people on the planet, where can we start to rekindle sparks of connection?
In the smallest moments and simplest ways, within and around us:
Connecting to the breath flowing through our lungs.
Connecting to the grounding sensations of our feet on the Earth.
Connecting to a stranger through a moment of kind eye contact.
Connecting to a moment of joyful play with our child or pet.
Connecting to the feeling of sunshine or breeze on our skin.
Connecting to the juicy sweetness of this one bite of strawberry.
Connecting to the sound of music or birds or trees rustling.
Connecting to a feeling of sweetness as we snuggle on the couch with a loved one.
Connecting to the always-present sense of stillness and peace deep in the center of our being.
And the great news is, we don't have to work to reconnect.
Interconnectedness is our natural state of being. We simply have to remind ourselves to remember to notice moments of connection as they naturally arise.
I truly believe that (re)connection is our pathway home — back to ourselves, to one another, to the planet, to life. So let's start small but intentionally; reconnecting one moment, one gesture, one word, one thought at a time.
With Love,
