New Testament 2023 Newsletter #5
Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3
Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord
(Jan 23-29)

A note from Emily & David
We are trying something new this year!  Many of you have asked us for help with preparing and teaching your lessons, so we changed up the way we record these episodes.  Instead of one long episode, you will notice chapter breaks.  You can still watch the episode as a whole, or you can pick the segments you want to invest your time in.  We will title each segment below so you know what to expect.  This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying Matthew 3; Mark 1; Luke 3. Here is what you can look forward to:

This Week's Printable

This week we are focusing on Changing the Shape of Your Day.

Teaching Tips for Kids
Read Mark 1:35-39
This is such a good lesson for talking about prayer.  Why we pray, how we pray, where we pray.  As you work through the questions on the worksheet with your kids, take time to discuss each one:
What does God believe about me?
What will He make me to become?
Where should I go today?
Whom should I serve today?
What shall I do today?
Have them ponder every one.

Teaching Tips for teens
Read Mark 1:35-39 and Daily Restoration, Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Spend some time talking about why starting your day with a prayer might change the course of your day.  Also teach how praying requires listening.  It is a conversation.  A place for actually obtaining answers and direction.  This can come as thoughts, faces, or places come into your mind.  It might be the whisper of a name or an idea.  If we pause to listen in prayer, direction will come.  Invite your teens to practice this way of praying.

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
Read Mark 1:35-39 and Daily Restoration, Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Ponder this from Elder Uchtdorf, and then apply it:

As our days go, so go our lives. One author put it this way: “A day is like a whole life. You start out doing one thing, but end up doing something else, plan to run an errand, but never get there. … And at the end of your life, your whole existence has that same haphazard quality, too. Your whole life has the same shape as a single day."
Do you want to change the shape of your life?
Change the shape of your day.
Do you want to change your day?
Change this hour.
Change what you think, feel, and do at this very moment.

Don't Miss This in the New Testament
Come Follow Me 2023 Study Tools
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long vides, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
