Hello First name / Friend,,

Today it’s over to Ceri John Phillips, who is an associate of the Wales Arts and Health Wellbeing Network.

The Wales Arts Health and Well-being Network (WAHWN) is a rapidly expanding network of colleagues delivering arts and health work in Wales. This challenge came from a Welsh Language 'breakout room' on Zoom, during a creative online workshop with WAHWN and 64 Million Artists!

Pictured below is WAHWN in action, a younger and older person sit side by side taking part in an exercise class, alongside a photo of Ceri John Phillips during our Zoom workshop.

This year, we are so pleased that The January Challenge is fully available in the Welsh Language, thanks to support from the Arts Council of Wales. This includes The Champions Pack - a free resource which includes all 31 challenges ahead of time - for people who want to use The January Challenge to engage with the groups around them at work or in their local community.

“Today we invite people to create new words – geiriau newydd, which is at the heart of all creative processes – we take something that exists, and we put it with something else that exists and we create something new.” - Ceri John Phillips

'Geiriau newydd' means 'new words' in Welsh.

Choose a word that is meaningful to you. Write it down in your 'mother tongue' - your first language. Now, learn how to say that word in a totally new language. You could use Google, books or conversation to learn how to say or sign that word.

Combine the two words to create one new word.

Welsh Translation:
Geiriau newydd.

Dewis air sy'n golygu rhywbeth i ti. Ysgrifenna'r gair yn dy famiaith - dy iaith gyntaf. Yna, dysga ddweud y gair mewn iaith gwbl newydd. Gallet ddefnyddio Google, llyfrau neu sgwrsio ag eraill i ddysgu sut i ynganu neu arwyddo'r gair.

Cyfuna'r ddau air i greu un gair newydd.
