In partnership with CBC, the Black Screen Office and Attraction, the Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema celebrates Black History Month with a free screening of The Nature of Things: Secret Agents of the Underground Railroad on February 23, 2023 at 6:30 PM ET (doors open at 6:00 PM ET). Join episode host, Anthony Morgan, as he investigates how science was used to reveal the long-held secrets of a luxury hotel and a group of Black waiters leading dangerous double lives. A panel discussion and audience Q&A will follow this special free screening. Secret Agents of the Underground Railroad is a revealing, scientific exploration of how a Niagara Falls hotel, The Cataract House, became the focal point for a 19th century North American Black Resistance movement. Using strategic archaeological and scientifically-focused investigations, we follow a team of archaeologists from the University of Buffalo as they recover parts of the hotel’s foundation; unearthing stories about how the hotel’s head waiter, John Morrison, and his seemingly innocuous wait staff covertly orchestrated Freedom Seekers’ escapes to freedom. Beginning next season, Anthony Morgan takes over for David Suzuki as co-host of the longest running Science and Nature show on TV, CBC’s The Nature of Things, alongside fellow new co-host, Sarika Cullis-Suzuki. Anthony Morgan is completing his PhD in molecular science, and holds an honours B.Sc. in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour. He is an exuberant science communicator committed to helping communities through science. He also loves doing high-energy public engagement events, or "stunt science," that brings attention to science in a fun way. He is creative director for Science Everywhere, a science education media company he founded. He has worked with top science programs including Daily Planet and CBC Radio’s Quirks & Quarks, and has guest hosted episodes of The Nature of Things. He is based in Toronto. |

Rejoignez l'animateur de l'épisode, Anthony Morgan, dans son enquête sur la façon dont la science a été utilisée pour révéler les secrets longtemps cachés d'un hôtel de luxe et d'un groupe de serveurs Noirs menant une double vie dangereuse.
