Welcome to Notes From Natty - our standing Friday morning coffee date (inbox style of course) where you get a weekly writing tip, a round up of the latest at Natty Writes and Friday Finds and Faves that I simply can’t gatekeep. Grab your cup (I’ve got mine ☕️) & let’s dig in ⬇️

Today’s an exciting day, First name / friend, because I’m on my way to get my first EVER brand photos done for my business!

This is something I’ve been wanting for a while now because well, I’ve been in business for 9 months and this is the only photo I have of myself on my website or my social media:

When I launched Natty Writes and created my website and Instagram account, it was tempting for me to think that I needed to get brand photos right away.

I felt pressured to have all the things that other business owners have…

Like a beautiful website, an abundance of brand images and a very clearly defined brand identity.

And while I absolutely believe that those things are super important, I also know that if I would’ve waited until I had them, then I might not have experienced the results that I did so quickly.

I probably wouldn't have landed a full load of 1:1 clients within the first 3 months. I probably wouldn’t have been able to raise my prices within the first 6 months. And I definitely wouldn’t have launched the Beginner’s Guide or Blog Writer Starter Pack

Instead of waiting until I had all of the pretty things to make things “perfect,” I just started with what I had - which was that photo above, the desire to write and the passion to help business owners implement one of the most overlooked assets for their business.

I started knowing that I could refine and make things better as I go.

If you struggle with wanting things to be perfect or planned out before you start, just remember that NO ONE wins (including yourself) when you wait.

Wanna start working out? Don’t wait for the cute Amazon set. Start with your old sorority t-shirt and Nike shorts. Refine later. The Amazon set doesn’t determine your results.

Wanna start meal prepping so you eat out less? Don’t wait until you find the perfect containers. Start with your old tupperware. Refine later.

Wanna start creating consistent content for your socials? Don’t wait until you have that viral ring light. Stand in front of a window and press record. Refine later.

The world will always be there to tell you that you need XYZ to start something. Don’t let them fool you! You can do A LOT of good with what you already have.

As cliche as it might sound, take the messy action. Chances are no one will even notice that you don’t have the perfect thing you’re convinced you need.

(kind of like I bet you never noticed that I only have that one photo 🤪)
Writing Tip of the Week
Staying on the theme of messy action, I see this come up a lot with content writing.

People will often put off writing blogs or sending emails in their business because they “aren’t a good writer” or “don’t know what to write about.”

And maybe you can relate to feeling that way… if so, you should know that the ONLY way you’ll get better at writing content is if you just start.

If I went back and looked at some of my first pieces of writing or heck even my writing 6 months ago, I would without a doubt cringe.

Like any skill (yes, writing is a SKILL that anyone can learn), the more you do it, the better you’ll get!

And if you think that you have nothing to write about, think again! You experience things every single day that can be content. Take your experiences, connect them to life or business lessons and you’ll be shocked at how much it connects with people.

Lastly, always remember: what’s basic or ordinary to you is really freaking awesome to someone else, so don't hesitate to share it.

(in case you missed the latest)

If you aren't familiar with ChatGPT, it's the new techy thing that's blowing up the internet that has the capability to answer questions, write text, compose music, write song lyrics and much more.

While it's definitely a cool tool that you can use to generate content ideas, I don't think it's the complete solution to content writing in your business - I explain why in the blog post and provide a small perspective shift when it comes to content in general!
Friday Finds & Faves
My Friday Finds and Faves have recently been a favorite podcast episode or productivity tool, but now that we're past the hype of Christmas and into February, I was thinking about new things that I was gifted for the holidays and which ones I've used almost everyday since.

There's 3 of them and you probably already have them or know about them, but on the slight chance you don't, welcome to my Christmas list:

1️⃣ The Stanley - as basic as it sounds IDC because I haven't put this thing down since I got it AND I drink so much more water because of it! I wanted to link one for you, but they

2️⃣ On Clouds - this gift was actually a surprise from my amazing gift giver of a husband and they are the thing that have made my daily walks even better

3️⃣ This ring light - I feel like a ring light is one of those things you always think about ordering but never do. That's how it was for me, so I was excited to open this on Christmas! I use it almost everyday in my office and it's the perfect mix of a lamp and the big light (in which I never turn on - if you know, you know).
