New Testament 2023 Newsletter #8
Matthew 5; Luke 6
Blessed Are Ye
(Feb 13-19)

A note from Emily & David
Have you ever stood in a grocery store checkout and wondered if the card would go through?  Have you ever mourned through the dark moments and wondered if the dawn would ever come?  Would you ever call those seasons blessed?  If that logic feels upside down to you, if you are walking the path of discipleship and wondering how holiness and happiness connect,
this lesson is for you.
This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying Matthew 5; Luke 6.  Here are the segments you can look forward to:

ALIYAH: The Call to Higher Living

SO BLESSED: Upside Down Happiness

OUTWARD EXPRESSIONS OF INWARD COMMITMENTS: Covenant Savor

HIGHER AND HOLIER: What Covenant People Look Like

DIG DEEP: Pressed Down and Shaken Together and Overflowing

We are so excited to spend this year learning with you!
With love,
David and Emily

This week we introduced you to some of our most favorite General Conference workbooks.  It was a little bit of a surprise for our friend, Rio, who owns workandwonder.com.   We love surprises :)  She is going to work on getting a preorder link up by the end of this week for anyone who wants to order a journal.  We will send you an email with the link for those journals later this week.

Teaching Tips for Kids
Let you little ones spend time drawing a picture in the space below each of the prompts on this worksheet.

Explain that sometimes life can be hard, but that Jesus can bring blessings even on those hard days.

Have them draw what they think His help would look like.

Teaching Tips for teens
It is the nature of Christ to show up in our stories, in both the good and the bad.  If they are feeling poor in spirit..if they are mourning…if they are hungering for righteousness…He will show up.

As they look at this worksheet, ask them to write down a time when Jesus has shown up in their story… in a moment of lack, a time when they offered their heart to someone, when they are seeking the good, when they feel empty, when they feel like they don’t belong.

Sometimes just opening our eyes to see, will allow us to find Him there.

Teaching tips for individuals and couples
Find a moment to ponder and then rewrite the beatitudes in your own words.  Here is an example of Emily’s rewrite.

When you feel like you are lacking you are blessed
because you will find your abundance in Him.
When your heart is broken you are blessed
because He will come to mend you.
When you become content where you are you are blessed
because you will learn to see God in everything.
When you are empty and unsatisfied you are blessed
because He will come to fill you.
When you offer your heart to someone in need you are blessed
because your heart will become like His.
When you seek for the good you are blessed
because that is where you will find God.
When your relationships need reconciliation you are blessed
because your Father is the giver of peace.
When you feel like you don't belong you are blessed
because He has already welcomed you in.

Come Follow Me 2023 Study Tools
Maybe you know this about us by now, but we are both visual, hands on learners.  Because of that, we are always trying to discover study tools that will help bring the scriptures to life in your home.  We will be using several different study tools this year, here is what we love most about each of them:

Videos:
For the New Testament we will be recording all new hour long vides, but this year they will be broken into ten minute segments in case you want to watch them for ten minutes every weekday, or you can watch them all at once.  These videos are totally free and can be found on YouTube or on our APP.

Journal:
The journals for the next four years have been totally redesigned with a theme in mind.  You will find questions to ponder daily that can be used for teaching or family discussions.  There are workbook pages based off of our most favorite part of each lesson that week.  You can also use these workbook pages for lessons or discussion.  There will also be a space for recording one name of Jesus Christ each week.

Devotional Book:
Perfect for a 5-10 minute lesson, these books can be used as a devotional every day.  This book is designed for personal study or family study.  We love to use ours around the dinner or breakfast table.

Word a Week Posters:
Perfect for a three minute study, these posters include one word and one verse a week for pondering.  Hang them somewhere in your home where they will be a daily reminder of Come, Follow Me.  This year we will be studying one name of Jesus Christ found in that week’s lesson.  By the end of the year we will have come up with 52 names.

Tip Ins:
These are small papers that can be glued right in your scriptures with tips and truths that will help to improve your study.

Stickers:
Use these colorful stickers in the margins of your Scriptures or in your Don’t Miss This Daily study journal.

Hopefully these tools will make your scripture study something you look forward to!
