A few weeks ago, as I was dropping the one and only Brooke Richie-Babbage off at LAX, she gave me one of the best compliments I've heard in a long time.

As we hugged good-bye she said, "You are a REALLY good listener."

I found myself smiling the whole way home and the statement has come back to me many times since our work retreat.

It reminded me that:

  1. Sharing compliments is SO important. Right? Wouldn't the small business world be such a better place if instead of just thinking good things about others we actually shared them? In person, replying to email, or commenting on social posts. Everyone would be happier. A good reminder to not be so passive, but to be generous with your accolades and...
  2. While I might be a good listener to others - I really need to work on listening to myself.

I'm not going to lie, the start to 2023 has been...overwhelming. πŸ₯΅

Ever since I whispered - I haven't even been able to shout it!
 - that I'm focused on copywriting with an emphasis on email - I've gotten more requests for work than ever before.

I know, I know - a good problem to have EXCEPT that my itty bitty shitty committee has come to town and I've been feeling waterboarded.

The other day I actually thought to myself, "Am I depressed?!" then I remembered that I've actually been depressed before and that's not what this is.

What this is, is me being on the cusp of leveling up and once again - I'm terrified

So rather than expand, I've been ... stalling.

Stalling has looked like everything from

πŸ‘‰ Being busy, but not actually doing any work
πŸ‘‰ Not updating my website to actually being able to take on new business
πŸ‘‰ Taking some time of social media and
πŸ‘‰ Fussing back and forth about making a new important hire.

As an Activator - I know that getting into motion is the most helpful thing I can do.

Which is why even scared, I revisited a conversation with Mariah, founder of Eaasy (shout out to Lisa Tarshis for the rec!). I used
this job description I wrote up last October (!).

In one meeting, she injected me with a battery boost I didn't know I needed. πŸ”Œ

I had ideas again! Motivation!

I've always been committed to sharing my truth in a real pull-back-the-curtains sort of way: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

It's been a little ugly lately, but with this new support (her name is Jen and she started yesterday), I'm kicking the IBSC to the curb and I'm preparing myself for some wild success.

Honestly, even saying that to you makes me uncomfortable which is why I know I still have work to do.

*cue the smudging ceremony to clear away the bad energy and a sundeck meditation session πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
