March 2023 | Issue 1

Hey First name / friend,

Happy Spring! and with this new season that's centred around re-growth and new beginnings - Welcome to Issue 1 of The APL Journal, a quarterly email zine where I'll share my latest reflections on craft, creativity and community.

Why these three pillars?

Craft: I guess this one is a little obvious, given I'm a jewellery maker…but I wanted to share deeper insight into my process. How I get from idea to adornment, and bring a collection to life.

Creativity: Without it, I wouldn't be here. And I don't just mean the APL brand, but as a person, engaging in creative pursuits is a form of nourishment for my soul. I want to use the Journal to share my thoughts on creativity, spark ideas in you, and talk to creatives who inspire me about their journeys too.

Community: One of the most important elements of my work. From South Asian Diaspora events and spotlighting trailblazers in the space, to talking to you about your own jewellery stories, I want The APL Journal to be a place for you to find inspiration, belonging and connections.

I'll be sharing more articles on my website every couple of weeks, but the quarterly email will highlight the best bits for you to delve into…

The Empowering Adornments Collection is all about pieces of jewellery with affirmations to remind you of your importance.

When I’m nervous, I have a tendency to fiddle with or hold onto a pendant or necklace I wear. There’s something about having a tangible object that helps me ground myself during moments of stress.

This made me want to create pendants that actually carry messages to empower or calm the wearer. The Empowering Adornments collection has been designed to do just that.

And there we have it!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Issue 1 of The APL Journal. What else would you like to see, or who else would you like to hear from? I can't wait to bring you more notes on craft, creativity and community.

Until next time,
Anisha x
