Creative Kickstart Week 5

This week's prompt is…
UNEXPECTED
“A creative train of thought is set off by the unexpected, the unknown, the accidental, the disorderly, the absurd, the impossible.”

How can we surprise ourselves with our art? What can we discover in different materials and mediums? Is there a way to collaborate with them, let them do their part while we do ours? Can we add a touch of awe and wonder into the process, our finished piece?

I found this week's round up of inspiration and ideas to be especially fun, unique, and a little magical too! I'm excited to see how they speak to you and translate into the pages of your sketchbook.

(The image header above was made with paint and ice cubes and letting them melt together to see what shapes they will form.)

ENVISION & EXPRESS
How can you transform your page in an unexpected way?

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER
If you're interested in trying something that works better with a detached piece of paper (like the folding example above), try adding a pocket to the front or back cover of your sketchbook (or find a sketchbook that comes with one). You can easily do this with some glue and paper/cardstock or by attaching an envelope. This way you can tuck the loose pages in there! It's also a good place to keep scraps of paper or materials you come across that you might want to use in the future!

And if you're interested in working with things that may change or not keep well long term (flowers, food, etc,) be sure to take a photo of the finished product and print it out--add it to a page in your sketchbook or tuck this into your sketchbook pocket.

Here's to uncovering hidden treasures in the days ahead (and our final week of this Creative Kickstart series!)
