Hi friends,
This Sunday, I would like to share with you my two new financial habits:
1. Every morning, right after I wake up, I send good morning to my
#sunrisewinners group and then say hello to my bank account by logging into my bank application and looking at the numbers while practicing gratitude for whatever amount there is.
Through this habit, I aim to stay in touch with my money and know exactly how much I have. I want to celebrate any increase from the day before if any and If it's less than the last time I checked, I still bless the money I spent to serve my needs, and many times desires, and my family's. I am also tracking this habit on my habit tracker.
I dream of the day when I will check my accounts because I will have made money while sleeping by selling digital or physical products. That day is coming soon. I know it.
2. Every week or two, I open up a Google Sheet I have customized to track my income and my expenses in detail.
I have been committed to this habit since August 2022, and it has been such an eye-opener. Thanks to this practice, I detected the hidden expenses that I didn't consolidate before, like the annual fees I pay for digital subscriptions and expensive shipping, and I canceled some subscriptions I don't use.
Nowadays, when my credit card statement arrives, I know exactly how much it will be because all expenses were already logged and put aside to be paid back from next month's salary. THis was major because I couldn't do this credit card/next salary split in my previous money management app.
In this Google sheet, I also created a list of things or events I want to spend on or buy over the year. This way, I have gained the clarity that helps me save money, and I don't feel deprived when I don't spend money because of these specific, more important and short-term goals I am saving for.
Whenever I finish filling out my expenses every week or two, I get the same grounded feeling of doing my weekly review. It feels magical.
Upgrading my relationship with money is one of my important goals this year. So, in addition to committing to these habits, I am reading books about money and abundance. My current favorite book is mentioned below in Spark #4. You will love it.
Interested in improving your finances too? Here is some advice:
- Start getting in touch with your money on a daily basis, even if there is barely any in your account. Give thanks for what is there and what you spent, and believe there is more coming your way.
- Keep experimenting with money apps until you find your sweet spot; that app you will use to stay on top of your finances. After years of “using” an app, I returned to my first love, excel sheets. That's how I used to track my money when I was a junior with a car loan. As my income grew, I may have forgotten how well excel sheets worked for me, and I am so glad I am back.
- Track both your income and expenses on a frequency that is comfortable for you. I started daily, then switched to weekly/bi-weekly.
Would you like me to talk more to you about money in the coming weeks? Let me know by replying to this email.
Wishing you abundance and freedom from any limiting money beliefs (this takes some digging, but it is 100% worth it).
