Hi friends! This week I thought I would put together a little comparison for you of iPhone photos vs. Polaroid photos. Rachel and I recently started a new series together and these images are our first pieces in it. They were shot on very different days, but both in beautiful Carkeek Park, specifically near Piper's Orchard.

We always take iPhone photos to finesse Rachel's pose since we basically only have one shot to get the Polaroid as perfect as possible, and Rachel brought to my attention how cool it is to see them side-by-side. An incredibly old photography medium and an incredibly new one. Both providing immediate feedback but in very different ways.

Even though I don't usually end up “using” iPhone photos, it is really cool to have them and to get a new perspective on the scene through their unique qualities. You can see a lot more detail on the ground in both of the iPhone images compared to the polaroids. The lighting is also a lot less dramatic-looking in the iPhone photos and therefore a bit more realistic to the actual scene. But you know I can't resist dramatic lighting, which is why I love shooting film & Polaroids…

I can't wait to share more from this series as we create them! We may continue the theme of having Rachel laying on the ground in every single photo in this series, with different kinds of flowers or plants surrounding her. But we will see how it evolves and what it becomes!

Several of you gave me feedback that you did not see my last newsletter right away because it went into your Promotions tab in Gmail, so I wanted to mention a couple of solutions for that if you are a Gmail user:
  1. You can drag my newsletter to your Primary tab, and that should tell Gmail to send my future newsletters straight to the Primary tab. Or…
  2. You can remove the Promotions/Updates/Etc tabs altogether, which is what I have done because I find them unhelpful. You can do that be going into your Settings → Inbox → and then turn off all the “Categories” except Primary.
Thank you for being here and hope you have a beautiful week! xo, Holly
