Creative Kickstart Week 5 Check-In
Unexpected

I came across these 2 videos recently and had to share with you! The medium, design, and final product were not at all what I expected--here are the links (they are both less than a minute long):

What did you think? Are there any elements you'd like to incorporate in the future? There's definitely a few techniques that I thought were really cool that maybe I can translate into sketchbook form in the future…something to think about!

FROM OUR COMMUNITY
“Well this was strange as how this piece came about: I took water color and got the paper wet and blew a straw to get these lines using different colors. I then took paper and cut and tore and made a face and hair. Hmm… not sure if this is what was expected but this how it evolved.” – Sue P.

"Five rabbit scenes on folded paper using elements left behind with each unfolding.
Prompt inspired by @atiliay, design idea inspired by @clymdraws." – Vanesa S
"Lay water down (in a particular shape, if desired) then drop in ink. Prompt inspired by @atiliay, design ideas inspired by @inky_meditations." – Vanesa S

“Unexpected pairings (the fallen tree from my last post at Joaquin Miller Park) extended with watercolor & Water and Ink and a shout out to @doloresphelpswatercolours and my 6 werk intensive study with her last February and @atiliay for her continual inspiring prompts. Week 5 Unexpected. I heard the call to print that photo and insert it in my sketchbook. @vanesawatercolors had mentioned this tree would find it’s wsy into my creativity. I look forward to see how I might abstractly render this tree in many ways.” – EB

My sketchbook page is still a work in progress: I had an idea to give these scraps of paper new life and use them to express “unexpected” and “reveal". The image on the bottom right is the beginnings of that and I love how the light hit the paper to create those shadows…not something I plan on using for this piece but an idea I want to explore in the future! – Olivia

Please continue to share your finished pieces of work (don't feel like it's too late)! If there's anything you didn't submit previously but would like to, please email them to me so I can include them in the photo gallery. (And if you choose not to share, that's OK too!)

I can't believe it but this week wraps up the fifth and final week of The Creative Kickstart series! I'll be sending an email this Friday that will include a recap and let you know what's next. I hope you're proud of the action you've taken so far to cultivate your sketchbook practice! It takes effort and dedication and should be recognized. Take some time this week to flip through the pages you've created so far :)

Talk to you on Friday!
