THE FLOOD IS HERE
Hi First name / everyone, I hope you have had a fantastic month since the last newsletter. Here in the Chobe, we are so excited to have the floods in full swing. As the habitat changes the behaviour of the wildlife does too. I hope you enjoy some visual highlights from this month!

CHANGING CHOBE
THE RIVER IS RISING
So often people ask me when is the best time to come to Botswana, and the truth is there is no bad months in my opinion. Each season and each month provides something unique in an area. In my January newsletter I shared the amazing opportunities that Savuti provides in the new year. From carmine bee-eaters riding on the back of Kori Bustards, and predators in the beautiful newly sprouted grass.

For me another exciting time of the year is March-April on the Chobe river! This is our flooding season. Huge volumes of water slowly work their way down to the Chobe river all the way from the highlands of Angola. This the time for beautiful blooming waterlilies, an abundance of waterbirds, and charismatic bull elephants enjoying themselves in the many flooded channels.

Here are a few images from the last two years on the Chobe river, I hope you enjoy!

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Something a little different from me. I very seldomly do any photography that isn't wildlife, but occasionally something so beautiful catches my eye that I cant help myself to photography. After five days of rain and overcast weather a few weeks ago, the sun finally broke for just ten minutes, revealing some of the most incredible colours I have ever seen on the river. The calm water with colours from blue to orange looked like an impressionist painting.

WHITE BALANCE

Although these two images look like they are exactly the same (besides the colour), they were actually taken 2 minutes apart. As this red bishop called loudly from the top of a reed, I quickly changed the white balance of my camera. While I personal keep a fixed colour balance of around 5300 kelvin as it is very easy to change in post production when shooting in RAW, I thought this would be a good way to demonstrate how importance the warmth of colour is.

The first image is at 3400 Kelvin and the second at 8000. While I personally like both images, I would love to know which one you prefer?
