Creative Kickstart Recap
Our first series is in the books!

We began with a vision, got a little messy, found connection, crushed it, and embraced the unexpected-- congrats on working through 5 weeks of The Creative Kickstart! :)

This kickstart was about the process, finding time to create, and taking action; a learning experience that includes mistakes, ideas that end up going totally sideways, surprising results, as well as finished pages and elements you find yourself loving!

I know it's not always easy (I find myself racing against the clock a lot to finish by the end of the week 😅) and I acknowledge your efforts and dedication during these past 5 weeks. I hope this time helped you build creative momentum, learn a few things, and most importantly, have fun!

It's been such a joy getting to learn about your inspirations and ideas and seeing them come to life. Thank you for sharing this experience with me.

Here's what you can expect in the upcoming weeks and I can't wait to send out the next prompt!

WHAT'S NEXT

As we move into spring, we'll be switching to a less intensive schedule: 2 prompts per month (until the 5 week Summer Sketchbook Un-Slump series in July).

You'll receive the first March prompt on Friday, March 10th. Since we'll have 2 weeks to work on our pages instead of 1, the prompts will reflect this change in timing.

This brings us to a 2 week break! During this time you can…
  • Rest and recharge. Take it easy and take a break if you'd like. Instead of actively creating, you can passively create: watch films and videos, read books, continue to expose yourself to ideas and absorb inspiration in a relaxed way.
  • Catch up. If you haven't gone through all of the prompts yet, it's OK! You can use this time to continue working at your own pace.
  • Revisit. Was there a prompt you wanted to spend more time on? Did you have more ideas you didn't get a chance to get down on paper? This is a great opportunity to explore those lingering ideas further! Find all the prompt emails here.
  • Flip through your sketchbook. Look at what you've created so far! Take pictures of each page, put them together (maybe try something like this using Illustrator or a layout app like Unfold or Layout), blog about it, share on social media, or try putting photos to music and create a reel.
  • Take a look at our community photo gallery. It's so fun to see how everyone interprets the same prompt! There are a good amount of images that haven't been included in the check-in emails and some of us don't have social media so this is where you can find all the photos that have been submitted! Head over to the collection of albums then click on the ones you'd like to take a closer look at. You may also find some inspiration in a technique or idea you might want to try!
  • Regroup and reflect. How were these past 5 weeks for you? Is there anything you want to add to your process or adjust? How was your schedule and finding time to create? Do you need to make any changes as we head into the 2 week prompt time? You can also take this time to organize supplies and clean up your workspace (or not as per Francis Bacon :))
  • Try creating your own prompt. If you'd like to continue with weekly prompts, try making your own! You can also use this random word generator.
  • Create your year of marks piece. Don't forget to add to your piece for February! If you haven't started yet but would like to, you can begin with Feb or I think it's totally OK to go back and do January. There's more info on this project here and here.
  • Work on your 100 Day Project. Several of you have already started (they look awesome!) and if you're interested in beginning one, you can do so at any time!

I had another idea for messy that I wanted to try out so I think I'll be attempting that in the upcoming days!

Even though we'll be taking a short break, don't be a stranger :) Always feel free to reach out if you have any updates or questions. For those of you on Instagram or TikTok, I'll also see you over there! If social media isn't your thing, you can also connect with me through my regular bi-weekly ish newsletter, Atiliay Notes.

Have a very good break, take care, and I'll talk to you soon!
