The Magic Begins with YOU

Welcome to Sewing is Magic. I'm so delighted that you have chosen to spend the next four weeks (or as long as you'd like to take) with me to learn to tap into your own creative power through the magic of making. Look in the mail for a gift from me over the next couple days.

In the lead-up to the first week of lessons and practices, I'd like to remind you that the intention we hold in our hearts when we do anything is how we create magic. It is my intention that you feel supported and celebrated during our time together.

When you don't know how something is made
it seems like magic.

Someday, you will understand how to make that thing, yourself,
and it becomes another skill in your toolbelt.

But if you love to make things with your hands
and you continue to practice that skill,
honing your craft until it becomes second nature…

all the sudden, it's magic again.

It's my dearest wish that you experience the kind of magic that comes from astonishing yourself through the works of your own hands.
I've adapted a little spell for us to get started.  Full moons are traditionally a time to release what is no longer serving us. Let us tap into the power of the nearest full moon to release any self-criticism, at least during the next four weeks. I invite you to approach our time together with an open heart, a beginner's mind, and a generous helping of forgiveness at the ready for whatever new frustration or old hurt that may come up as you (and I) learn something new.

Let this time be a practice of self-compassion and inner-self friendship.

Here's a spell to try for some support:

May I remain connected to my past in as much as it enriches and serves my present.

May I release any obstacles I am tempted to place in my own way.

May my relationship with my inner self provide nourishment and support when I need it in the present moment, and may I be a blessing to my future self.

And So it Is.

I made a video with a ritual you are invited to practice along with me.
I used a candle, a bowl filled with water, a jar with a lid, and three flowers.

Please use whatever you feel drawn to incorporate.

If you would like to share your enthusiasm, I've made some graphics you can use to tell your friends where you'll be for the next month (with me), what you're making them for their birthday (something handmade), or why you're asking for gift cards to fabric stores going for all the upcoming holidays.

Please feel free to email (go ahead and reply!) or text me at (313) 414-3719 any time over the next 4 weeks when you have questions.
