Hey First name / friend ,

Reporting back from my mid-winter break and re-entry has been a real B.

Johnny and I had the most wonderful time in Mexico, a trip we took a little bit on a whim when my MIL asked if she could have the kids for a winter session of Nana Camp. (They skied!)

Since we were dropping the kids off in Denver, we decided to escape to Mexico City — a magical place that everyone seems to been talking about lately.

And Johnny had a fantasy spot in Cabo that he used to daydream of zapping himself to when he worked long hours at both the bank and the pizzeria. (He spotted it in a Ben Stiller rom com, and could never shake the vision!)

Our trip did not disappoint!

One of my favorite moments on any trip is the first night when you have the whole adventure in front of you, and you never know what's going to unfold. On this first night, we met up some neighbors from NY who also happened to be in town. Our friend Jordan had scoped out a bar + restaurant to try, which were both great. It was also a treat to go along for the ride. (I'm the default planner on trips between Johnny and I!)

Next we spotted whales (!!!) while reading books on the beach in Cabo. I also picked up this amazing dog collar/friendship bracelet combo at a store at the magical Flora Farms. Is it weird to have friendship bracelets with your dog?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Going from a high of a warm, fun and carefree vacay to coming home to celebrate my cousin Zach's 3rd death anniversary on Sunday, it was hard not to feel down.

I still feel Z's void immensely.

My whole family (20+ people) got on a zoom to light a yahrzeit candle, say the mourner's kaddish, and remembered our sweetest Z.

My little one, Syd, was busy spotting hearts everywhere (per usual) – it tells us that somehow, Z is still around.

The other thing that’s making re-entry a little tough: I moved all my meetings from last week to this week.

Keeping my schedule VERY spacious is something I feel passionate about, and I feel is necessary for me, personally, to do a good job.

I have ideas now to avoid this for next time, but for now, I’m IN. IT.

A few things I’m doing to make this week easier:
  • Cuddling with my babies
  • Turning off social media during the day (since willpower isn’t my strong suit, I’m deleting from my phone!)
  • Getting this message from a sweet friend that almost made me cry on the subway.
  • The Modern Loss Variety Hour I attended last night, which was moving, heartwarming, and hilarious. If you're not familiar with Modern Loss, I highly recommend.
  • Having dinner with another one of my very best friends at an old haunt from when we lived in our first NYC apartment in Stuy Town (Our 20-year Roomie-versary is coming up in June! Should we throw a rager?!)
Tell me, how are things going, First name / friend

What’s cooking in your “how to make this week easier” list? If you're in for a long week, it always helps to make one ;-)

xx, Leah
