Dear First name / Hope for Haiti Family:

Today is International Women's Day, a day during which we reflect on the incredible impact that women have on our world and the importance of empowering and supporting women in all aspects of life.

At Hope for Haiti, we are committed to promoting gender equality and uplifting women and girls in Haiti through our programs and initiatives. Behind this work is also a team of driven, inspiring, female change-makers. The majority of the Hope for Haiti team identifies as female (61%), including 83% of our senior-level staff members.

This International Women's Day, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and achievements of women everywhere, and recommit ourselves to the work of building a more just and equitable world for all. Read on to learn about our recent programming and updates!

International Women's Day Programming

Every day of March, our team of nurses is conducting free cervical cancer screenings for women in different communities in southern Haiti. We’ll also provide weekly financial literacy training in our partner schools and host an essay-writing contest about the importance of women’s rights.

Today (March 8), our team is hosting a community walk to raise awareness and celebrate International Women's Day. The walk will end at our Infirmary St. Etienne with an educational block-party event in collaboration with our healthcare partners. Attendees will have access to discussions about finance, cervical & breast cancer education and screenings, and talks about women’s rights. Follow Hope for Haiti on social media to see more updates on this special programming!

Our GIK Director Talks Trust
"Having partners we can trust makes it possible to do my job and provide critical access to healthcare in some of the most remote areas in southern Haiti," said Hope for Haiti's Gift In-Kind (GIK) Director, Yvette Ebb.

Yvette shared this during her presentation at MAP International's conference last week. Map is a long-time partner of our organization and has shown up for us and the people our work supports time after time. We are so grateful for this partnership, which allows us to better serve rural communities in Haiti, especially following natural disasters, such as hurricanes and earthquakes.

Building Hope Through Computer Labs

Growing up, James Declerus had no access to the internet, healthcare, or good education. He didn’t know anything about computers or the role he would play in fighting the digital divide. Today, James has played an integral role in bringing computer science to children in rural Haiti.

This recently published case study by our long-time partner, Endless OS, explores the impact our organizations' collaboration has had and the effects of the addition of 47 computer labs in southern Haiti.

Can you imagine climbing 200 flights of stairs every day to get to work or school? In the rural community of Marre à Coiffe, Haiti, students and families climb the equivalent of 200 flights of stairs every day from the bottom of a mountain to access clean water, healthcare, and education.

Started in 2019, the Hike for Haiti has raised nearly $600,000 to fund education and healthcare programming in rural southern Haiti. We need your help to make this year's hike the biggest one yet!

We challenge YOU to virtually hike Marre à Coiffe in solidarity and/or join us at one of our in-person activations in Los Angeles or New York City for the fifth annual Hike for Haiti. See below for details on our in-person events.
