Growing an email list = one of the more difficult things I've done in my business.

In fact, I always say, “Two of the hardest things I've ever done ever done are teaching my kid to 💩 in the potty and growing an email list…”

And in the last 24 months…once the craze of moving everything online and people being ok with opt-ing in to everything has cooled down…growing an email list of the right people is harder than ever.

For the past 4 weeks, I've had the honor of working with 5 badass nonprofit consultants to get their email marketing in check.

For some of them…they've set up their very first email marketing systems 🌟

Others…they've doubled the size of their email list or are getting open rates in the 70% range 🚀

Everyone is getting on board with the idea that email marketing is a powerful tool.

So…what is working these days? In no particular order, here is a short list:

  1. Not to be underestimated - having an EPIC opt-in: Good products sell themselves - so how can you create a free download, private podcast, template, or live training that people actually want? A sexy (not clickbait!) name for it doesn't hurt either. Case in point, Cindy's new quiz has recruited 200+ new subscribers in a matter of weeks!
  2. Converting people from social media followers to email subscribers: I see you 👀 showing up on LinkedIn or maybe Instagram and pumping out content every few days )maybe daily!). You've built a following 👏 so why not try and convert those same people to email subscribers to have a multi-channel approach to reaching people?
  3. Asking people to share: As a content creator myself, it's just not possible to create every single thing from scratch. That's why when someone asks me to share something that will be helpful (it's gotta be good!) to my audience - I'm happy to! Generally, I've found - others are too. So, what would it look like for you to go to other nonprofit consultants with audiences adjacent to yours and ask them to share your new resource? Pro tip✨: Make it 100% easy for them with a description and easy to access opt-in.
  4. Inviting people in your personal and professional network: When was the last time you sent out an email to your nearest and dearest telling them what you're up to? There is a solid chance they have no clue about the content you put out - so tell them and while you're at it - ask them to share with one person who might dig your content too.
So, there you go!

Of course there are other things like going on podcasts (low yield) to hosting your own virtual summit (high yield, but a lotta work 😅) that will help you grow your email list, but these are what I've found to be high-ish yield and low effort #winwin.

But I'd love to hear from YOU! What's been working when it comes to growing your own email list these days? Hit reply and let me know!

Jess
