Can you image your photographer never sharing images of your session? That's what happened to me when I recently booked a photoshoot with one of the bigger names in photography. I combined the shoot with a recent trip to LA, carefully selected my wardrobe, sat for hair and make-up — the whole deal.
Although the photos were beautiful, I didn't really click with the photographer and the overall experience felt off. The photographer was all business, didn't take the time to really get me to open up, and took me through what I can only guess was their standard set of poses. The photos are visually stunning, but I'm missing that warm feeling and memories associated with a fun experience.
They did eventually share one of my photos — in stories…with a caption selling another product underneath it.. Nothing about the shoot, nothing about the experience, nada.
As photographers, we are constantly told to curate our work and share only our ideal client images, the work we want more of. So I can't really blame this photographer for the oversight. How boring is that? Not just aesthetically but creatively for me as the photographer. Who wants to shoot a sea of sameness?
For me though, I thrive on aesthetic and creative variety. I enjoy the push to create something unique for every individual. After all, who wants to shoot a sea of sameness? You and your projects keep my work interesting. I appreciate your trust in my vision.
I am fiercely proud of every photo session and human that graces my lens. I want to share your story, your vulnerability — show off your cool, confident self and crow about your images from the rooftops. XOXO
