March 2023 Edition
Live, Work, Play and Connect with College Park. College Park Connects Newsletter connects residents, businesses, and visitors to the latest news and events within and around the global city.

From the Mayor's Desk
February was a month filled with activity in our great city and we’re looking forward to an exciting March. We had a strong showing for this year’s College Park Day at the Capitol, which was attended by all of our state senators and representatives. It is a testament to their commitment to our city that they took the time to connect with us despite a busy schedule under the Gold Dome. We were briefed by our delegation, the Georgia Municipal Association and our lobbyists about issues of interest to our city. It was an excellent day.

We also hit a big milestone at our last council meeting on February 20th. Council approved the hiring of our new city manager, Stanley Hawthorne. Mr. Hawthorne has a long history in local government, starting his career in Florida and coming to us most directly from Bloomfield, CT, where he served as the Town Manager. Mr. Hawthorne will begin his service with College Park in early April. We are excited for his arrival and know the community will welcome him with open arms as he transitions into his new role.

As always, I welcome the opportunity to connect with you. If you’d like to set up a time for a one-on-one conversation, please call 404-669-3755 or e-mail dcalloway@collegeparkga.com. We have several slots left for the March 21st one-on-ones, but if that date doesn’t work for you, let us know and we’ll be sure to find another time.

Happy Spring!

Keeping You In The Know As We Grow
Georgia International Convention Center Gateway Center Arena  Historic College Park Golf Course

We told you last month that a vendor would be selected for a signage project for the GICC and Gateway Center Arena. We are excited to report that Mayor & Council approved Knight Sign Industries as the contractor to complete the project. You should see shovels in the ground to get this started by March 1!

More great improvements are coming to the GICC as well! The City of College Park Purchasing Department recently sent out an RFP for vendors to bid on refurbishing the 7 towers on Convention Center Concourse, called, “The Sails.” That vendor will pressure wash, repair and repaint those striking landmarks at the entrance to our campus. We are excited to be able to make this improvement to the entry way and first-impression icons for visitors to our campus. GICC leadership is currently reviewing bid submissions and will make their recommendation to Mayor & Council soon!

Meanwhile, over at the Gateway Center Arena- they held another great concert! Dreamfest, starring That Girl Lay-Lay hosted by Nickeloden’s own Young Dylan was a huge success! Of course, we still have a lot of home games left for our College Park Skyhawks- so there’s still time to catch a game!
