Call to action!

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking community input on several challenges and initiatives:

Provide your comments on U.S. postdoctoral training. The deadline for comment is April 14. The NIH is particularly interested in hearing from trainees, early-career faculty and others invested in the biomedical workforce about potential solutions to challenges affecting postdocs.
Provide your comments on NIH's new public access plan for public access to federally funded research. The deadline for comment is April 24. The NIH has released a new public access plan for public review and comment following the August 2022 White House memo “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research.” The NIH’s current Public Access Policy, which allows a 12-month embargo period, has been in place since 2008, and in January, the agency released its Data Management and Sharing Policy. A corresponding blog post describes the new release as “not a proposed policy, but a roadmap of steps the NIH will take to enhance access to research products.”

In order of due date:

California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) Program Assistant (40-55K): This position provides program support to the design, delivery, and promotion of studies, workshops, briefings, and other science advisory services provided by CCST. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of activities required to provide information to enable California to strengthen its policies with science and technology. CCST Science Fellows Program Manager (70-85K): This position manages all aspects of the CCST Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program to successfully recruit 15 PhD scientists and engineers annually to help provide expertise to policymakers in Sacramento as they make these critical decisions.Learn more and apply here. Application review begins March 13, 2023.
Health Policy Research Scholars is a national leadership program for doctoral students in any academic discipline who are starting their second year of study and want to apply their research to help build healthier and more equitable communities.

CCST Program Officer - Alumni Engagement (50-75K): The CCST Science and Technology Policy Fellows (Science Fellows) Alumni network includes over 100 alumni and continues to grow each year. This position supports this network by creating thoughtful programs, services, and communications to ensure that all alumni (current and future) feel a genuine sense of belonging.
