Hey, First name / friends!
I’m thrilled to announce that my 2023 wallpaper collection with RoomMates Decor just launched! Wallpaper is one of my favorite products in my art licensing portfolio and these lush, hand-painted patterns are no exception.
As a digital nomad without a permanent residence of my own, I love partnering with RoomMates because their peel-and-stick wallpaper is perfect for renters! It installs suuuuper easily and when you’re ready to move or give your room a refresh it’s a breeze to take down

There are 14 designs each with multiple colorways, so there’s something for everyone in this collection! Many of these designs were inspired by my travels, and I share the story behind them on the RoomMates website

#CreateWithCatCoq - Elephant Ear DTIYS
The designs in my collection with Roommates Decor are all inspired by nature and things I encountered while traveling, so this week’s #CreateWithCatCoq will follow a similar theme!

Your challenge this week is to draw this elephant ear painting in your own style!

Fun fact, this elephant ear was the centerpiece at a restaurant I went to with my parents when they came to visit me in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2017.

(We Coquillette ladies made my dad take the selfie so he’d have the giant head. Sorry, dad! 😅)

I love to simplify complex motifs like this and use white space to give my paintings a fresh and modern look.

Share your interpretation of this elephant ear leaf on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq. I go through all the submissions and I can’t wait to see you draw this in your style!
Make Your Own Wallpaper
All of the patterns for my RoomMates Decor collection were originally standalone hand-painted motifs before I turned them into seamless patterns. If you want to get into licensing your artwork on products like fabric and wallpaper, seamless patterns are a must!
Want to learn how you can take your own hand-painted motifs and turn them into repeat patterns? I teach my entire process step-by-step in Seamless Patterns in Photoshop

This class teaches the exact process that I use to create professional-level surface patterns like the ones in my new wallpaper collection. And as a bonus, you’ll learn how to upload your pattern to print-on-demand sites so you can create and sell products with your designs.

Bonus: You can even upload your own seamless pattern to Spoonflower and create your very own wallpaper and fabric out of your artwork!

New Interview: The Creator's Adventure
And last but not least: My interview with The Creator's Adventure just went live on Youtube!! You can watch it here.
Here's a little peek of some of the things we discussed:
  • What licensing clients are looking for. And what they aren't looking for.
  • Why I filmed my very first class. ...and just how nervous I was to be in front of a camera.
  • ...and then why I decided to keep going and film 25 more Skillshare classes.
  • How teaching filled a gap I had in my life and made me feel more fulfilled.
  • How creative burnout can impact your life.
  • Trends that became best-sellers in my portfolio.
  • Things you can put into a licensing contract that will MASSIVELY benefit you.
  • The strategy of using "bargaining chips" in contract negations.
  • How challenging the status quo and forging your own path, putting yourself out there, and getting out of your comfort zone can help you reach success.
Watercolor will always be my first love, and I love sharing how to turn watercolor designs into art licensing opportunities. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with for the #CreateWithCatCoq challenge! Have a fantastic week!
