Hello First name / Friend,,

Our March take-over continues…

Throughout this month, The Weekly Challenge will come from the newest member of the 64 Million Artists team, our Team Administrator - Zara Veerapan-Padayachy. Here's to Week Two!

“Today, I have curated a fun thinking challenge for our wonderful community to try. I sincerely hope you enjoy it!”

Write a list of your hobbies or interests.
Then take a deep breath and look at your list.
Find two things that seem opposite, unrelated.
Draw two circles that overlap on a piece of paper – a Venn diagram if you will - and put interest #1 in one circle and interest #2 in the other.

Shade the overlap in the middle. Pictured below is an example, inside one circle it reads ‘goats’, in the other it reads ‘chocolate’. The overlap contains question marks.

Create something that links the two together! You could build something, draw something, write something, anything goes.

“Think of an idea that links the two, how can you connect these two seemingly separate things? This isn’t about being wildly intelligent and winning the Nobel prize - although you are of course welcome to go down that route (but don’t forget to credit me!!). This is in fact an opportunity to tug on your imagination and see what can be conjured up!”

“For some of you it might feel like you don’t have any at the moment (trust me, I’ve been there and done that many-a-time!). However, let’s see if I can inspire you via the following prompts.

  • Do you have any cultural interests, are you into film, music, comics? If so, what type, which genres?
  • How about sport, maybe you like going solo - do you like swimming? Or perhaps you prefer being part of a team and can be found playing rugby, football or cricket?
  • Are you interested in the esoteric: yoga, crystals, tarot?
  • What items do you eye up in the food aisle? Do you have a favourite animal? A favourite colour?

I’m all ears m’dears!

Whatever you do - please don’t feel limited by these options though! Perhaps your passions lie elsewhere and I promise you, they’re just as valid. It’s all welcome here so write it down, make a list – what do you like?”

What does fun mean to you?

“Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the intention is to just have fun, and that doesn’t necessarily mean grinning so hard your face hurts (although that is an excellent experience!), it can just be about wanting to persevere with something because it’s enjoyable.

For some, it can be about discovering a way to link goats and chocolate, for others it might be more about day-to-day problem solving, such as “how can I get this huge blanket to fit in this tiny cupboard?”

So my suggestion here is to figure out what “fun” means to you, and then follow it, changing direction when the fun factor diminishes – remember: you’re in the driver’s seat, you’re in control here.”
