For February's mini challenge, I'm combining 2 things I love--a good love song and lettering! We'll be lettering the titles of our favorite love songs (throwbacks, sad break up songs, oldies, happy upbeat tunes, breakup anthems and everything/anything in between!) To add some more visual interest, our lettering will be used to create heart shapes. This month's PDFs includes a checklist, instructions, and 3 templates!

CHALLENGE
Heart Shaped Love Songs

DETAILS + VIDEO REFERENCE
  • Please see instructions and suggestions in the PDF
  • If using the DOUBLE HEART TEMPLATE--be extra careful when going over the areas that should be left empty! A few things that can help: lightly pencil in the heart outlines, letter in pencil, erase any pencil lines that fall in the grey area to keep yourself from going over those with ink.
  • After reviewing the PDFs, head over to this Instagram post to see a video of lettering using the double heart template
  • I can't wait to share some of my favorite songs (I've been putting together a list for several weeks!) and more process videos--I will be posting them on Instagram throughout the month.
  • If you need song title ideas, here's 75 of them on my song list :)
SHARE YOUR WORK!
This challenge works perfectly in Instagram Reel form--take a video, add the song you're lettering, and share! The hashtags we'll be using this year are #betterlettersin15 #bli15mini and don't forget to tag me @atiliay. If social media isn't your thing, you can always share directly/privately with me via email: hello@atiliay.com. I would LOVE to see photos of your finished hearts  so don't be shy :)

Have fun with this challenge and don't stress about it being "perfect"! When you're done, the final shape and effect your lettering creates will be the focal point--any small mishaps or inconsistencies really won't matter since we're zooming out to see the entire piece! We will be lettering a lot so it's a good chance to practice and be consistent but there's no need to be too hard on yourself :)

After you finish, I hope you'll be inspired to use your lettering in various ways to create different shapes. I also hope it'll be a fun month of discovering/rediscovering some good music!

Happy February and happy lettering!
