CHALLENGE
Create wrapping and packaging with your lettering for the holidays (or birthdays, special occasions, etc.)

RESOURCES
TIPS/IDEAS
  • You don't need fancy pens to do this! One of my favorite tools is using a Sharpie (especially for larger scale lettering) to create faux calligraphy--or leaving it as is. You can also use Crayola markers.
  • You don't need fancy writing to do this! Use your regular cursive, extend or enlarge it or your print writing, scrawl in messy handwriting--play around with it! The larger you write the more abstract looking it'll be. Keep in mind you'll be trimming the paper and putting ribbons etc. on top of it as well. Don't worry about it being perfect :)
  • When creating any type of all over pattern, I like to stagger the lines for a more all-over print look (this is totally a style choice though and up to you!), here is a visual:

  • It also helps to have scratch paper underneath so instead of figuring out how to start a word mid-way through, write the beginning on the scratch paper then have it continue on the wrapping paper so it looks natural and not squished or spaced out unevenly. Same with ending a word mid-way through.
  • Although my tutorials are on kraft paper, you can do this on a smaller scale for smaller gifts by using scrapbook or regular printer paper. You can also apply the same technique to paper and gift bags, gift boxes (make sure to use sharpie or permanent pen if it has a glossy coating), tags, etc.
