Featured Winery
Susan Bender-Phelps, owner, tells a candid story about the creation of Rose and Fern Cellars:

"Eight years ago, Jim came home from a meeting with a client and said, “Honey! I bought a winery!!!”
I was completely surprised and not at all pleased. We had never even talked about being in the wine
business. He owns an equipment leasing company and one of his clients, the one he’d met with that
day, was the manager of a wine storage facility in McMinnville. One of their wine storage customers lost her investor and decided to close shop. She was a great wine maker. She sourced her grapes from
different growers and was trying to get into wine shops and liquor stores. She didn’t have a tasting room or a vineyard. We learned a lot in the year it took to get licensed to sell wine. Once we could, it took us almost two years to sell all of the wine she’d made. During that time, we met Joe Williams of D’Anu Winery. He’s been our wine maker ever since. It’s a wonderful collaboration."

Is there a story behind the name?
The woman we bought the wine from had named her business Rose and Fern Wines. We loved her label design and as my mother’s name was Rose, we decided to keep the branding and changed the name to Rose and Fern Cellars – we loved the play on words.

The Rose and Fern Team
Susan and Jim met their winemaker Joe Williams shortly after purchasing the Rose and Fern. He has proven to be an exceptional talent and integral part of their business.
