Last week, the Prime Minister of Jamaica announced my appointment to the new 14-member Constitutional Reform Committee that will advise on creating a homegrown Constitution for the country. The Committee is chaired by the Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs and co-chaired by the Ambassador Plenipotentiary with Responsibility for National Strategic Initiatives. The Committee's first step is to plan Jamaica's historic transition from constitutional monarchy to constitutional republic. Here we are, pictured above at Jamaica House, with the Prime Minister seated in the middle.

If your jurisdiction has held a referendum on becoming a republic, I would be very interested to learn about the text of the final ballot question. Thank you in advance for your help!

On My Bookshelf
Did you know that Bruce Ackerman has co-authored a book with his teenaged grandson, Cody Visnick? The book is titled When Melvin the Camel Meets Donald Trump. Believe me when I tell you that it is a lot of fun to read! Professor Ackerman gave me this copy when I last saw him.

Happy Birthday to the Portuguese Constitutional Court
Earlier this month, I traveled to Lisbon for an international conference to mark the 40th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Portugal. I spoke on a panel on "The Future of Constitutionalism," featuring Maria LĂșcia Amaral, Mattias Kumm, and Martin Loughlin. My lecture was entitled “The Corrosion of Written Constitutions.” The conference was held in the marvelous library of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, seen below on the day of my lecture.
