Hi friends,

Ramadan Kareem!

Wishing you a spiritually memorable month with your loved ones close to you.

The highlight of my past week was Mother’s Day, when I gave a one-hour talk to brilliant women working at The Royal Scientific Society, followed by a short session of questions and answers.

I talked to them about how to set and achieve goals anytime. I started with my story and then shared how I got to where I am now through goals. I explained the steps they can take to set goals that are derived from their own lives to bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be like I did and still do.

I immensely enjoyed the big stage I was on, the wide screen behind me, and the smiling faces in front of me. It was an experience to remember and proved to me how much I love public speaking and want more of it in my life. If you're planning an event for your employees, this is your sign to consider me!

I am grateful that the amazing HR director, listened to my podcast with Sima Najjar, reached out to me, and invited me to this event. Hi Aya and new Sunday Spark friends :)

Here are my two favorite pictures from the event.

There is another reason this mother’s day was extra special, but I will share more about that in the next few weeks! Stay tuned.

Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ a newsletter listing 5 insightful things I thought were worth starting your week with:

1. 🔒 Super interesting: Freedom is bad for creativity. This article reminded me of the book A Beautiful Constraint. which I explored as part of atlMBA, the best workshop I ever took back in 2019.

2. ✏️ Be a Good Assistant to Your Future Self. This blog post is for people still looking for reasons to journal and it encourages us to read our journals. It is such a fresh creativity booster.

3. 📚 Austin Kleon's s work, like the above blog post, always lifts me. He was one of the key contributors to my starting weekly one-minute videos on Instagram; he pushed me to share what I was learning. No wonder I got all of his three books in all formats, two of which are signed by him, and they are in the background in most of my videos. Here is one of my early-days videos summarizing his first book, Steal Like An Artist.

4. 🎧 I turned one of my best Instagram lives into a more digestible format for you; a podcast episode. In this episode, I was so vulnerable and open, sharing my story and what I learned about burnout. It is one of my favorites. Enjoy, and please leave a review on Apple podcasts like this or rate it on Spotify; it really helps the podcast reach a wider audience.

5. 💬 Spring started last week, and this is such a beautiful quote to remind us that time is not linear; it is circular:

“There is no such thing as time going straight on to new things. This is an illusion. Okay? And clinging to this illusion makes it difficult to understand oneself and one's life and what is happening to one. Time is repetition, a circle. This is obvious. Day and night, the seasons, tell us this. Even so, we don't believe it. Time is not a circle, we think. Spring screams the opposite to us, of course, and summer seduces us into believing that we're all going to live forever….”

Some cool resources I personally use, love and recommend, with discounts just for you:

  1. I like to start the day with my personalized Momentum Plus tab, which helps me stay focused with a powerful mantra, an inspiring image, a to-do list, countdowns to big dates, and world clocks where I keep an eye on time zones of friends and family living abroad before contacting them. Being a newsletter friend, you would get a special offer of a 10% discount when you subscribe to Momentum Plus with the promo code: bardees.
  2. Enjoy a free month of the Readwise app, it is the BEST way to retain the knowledge you gain through reading. Using spaced repetition, it helps you remember your highlights from kindle books/articles you read. I am in love with their new reader feature. Reading online has become a top-notch experience thanks to Reader. Get one month free using my link.
  3. I have been using Exist App for years as a digital journaling tool to track my mood in relation to my productivity and health choices. Try it out.
  4. I use Rescuetime to track my digital productivity. Rescuetime tells me how much I spend on email, Excel sheets, meetings, and nonwork activities. I have been a happy client since 2014.
