If you wanted a little peek behind the author curtain, this is one of them. The Post-Release Funk is a real thing! All that build-up and excitement, and then once it's out there… well, it's regular life again. Plus, it's a total mindf*ck to put your creativity out on public display. Every time I think it'll be not weird but it really is, for me at least. But it's all part of the package, and I wouldn't stop writing if a bandit stole all my pens.
In case you were wondering where readers fit into this (besides being the whole reason we write books and our most favorite people!!!), it can hugely help us sensitive writer beans when you a) pick up our new releases if they speak to you, as well as b) write reviews! If you loved a writer's book, know that every review is priceless, even if it's as simple as, “I loved it!” Positive reviews help other people choose which books to buy, and beautiful readers buying our books is deeply motivating to the writing process!
Okay, so that new release isn't everything going on in my world. Besides the post-release dip, I went to my friends' husband's memorial this weekend--the one I told you about a few weeks ago. That may account for the rest of my blues (it was lovely, though of course I was wrecked). We then woke the kids up before the crack of dawn to travel home, so everyone today has been a big whiney, cranky mess, myself included.
But! Lest I forget, good things are happening too. Hubby and I are going on a quick vacation next week to Joshua Tree to celebrate a milestone birthday for him!!!! Without the small humans!!! We haven't been on a plane since 2018!!! We're staying at a little house in the desert and I plan to stargaze from the hot tub with a piña colada.
Also, I had leftover enchiladas for lunch today and they hit the SPOT (sometimes it's the little things, right??).
So how about you? How are you feeling today? I for one feel better for having blathered about my feelings to you, so I hope you don't mind but you're my therapist now!! JK of course but also thanks and ILY.
If you haven't yet snagged your copy of Sing For Me, you can grab it right here:
geni.us/singforme. It's also where you can leave a review if you feel so inclined!
