Hey, First name / Biz Owner, does your website look like it was designed in the 90s?

We love the 90s too, but you may not want your 2023 site visitors installing Adobe Flash Player to view site graphics.

In our last newsletter, we shared some signs that it’s time to update your website. If you’re ready for a revamp, however, you have an important decision to make:

Where will your new site be built?

Wix?

WordPress?

Squarespace?

What about Shopify?

Personally, we think WordPress edges out the competition in a couple of ways, including SEO and ownership of site files, but ultimately, you need to choose the option that makes sense for your business.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing a website platform:
  • Who’s building your website? If you’re planning to hire a web designer, then the sky’s the limit, but if you’re handling your own site revamp, ease of use will be a big factor.
  • Do you want your site to be optimized for search engines? Though most site builders have some SEO features built-in, Squarespace and Wix fall short of WordPress in the SEO category.
  • Is it important for you to own your site? Did you know that Wix and Squarespace don’t allow you to transfer site files if you switch platforms? Your website is one of your most important digital assets, so this could be a deciding factor when choosing your site builder.
  • Do you need e-commerce features? Nearly all major site builders include some e-commerce options, but if you’re selling a wide range of products, you may want to choose a platform with more advanced features, like Shopify.
